Colposcopy

Hi,

Over the recent years my periods have been messed up and very irregular and the last 6 or so months I've had bleeding between my periods a lot of the time when I go for a wee and wipe. This is not heavy and can show up once when I wipe and then not again for a week, it's mad. I never thought anything of this until I started to get pains on the lower right side of my stomach, more towards my pelvic area.
I have been going dizzy quite a lot and sometimes just feel a little sickly but that passes.
I had an appointment with my GP Monday and she done an internal to check my cervix and then explained to me that I'd have to go and get examined at the hospital because I had a red patch on one side and said it was abnormal. So I've got a referral a 2WW and I'm just worried Incase it is something bad because she's referred it as urgent? Will I get an appointment with all this covid.
I'm 24, it's all just a bit scary.

thank you x

  • Hello Charlwil11

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some ongoing health concerns over the past few months. It's good to hear that you've already been in touch with your GP and got this checked.
Your GP will have followed a set of guidelines about the urgency of the nature of your referral so please don't panic. From posts we've seen here on the forum, most local hospitals seem to still be carrying out these kind of appointments but you could certainly give yours a call and ask about clinics and waiting times. They may be able to tell you if you'll be seen within 2 weeks or if Covid is causing any delays.

In the meantime if you'd like to speak to one of our nurses about your concerns you're most welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • Hey,

I just wanted to try to reassure you. I had exactly the same thing. Always had irregular periods but recently became even more so. Over the past few months I've been bleeding when I wipe and then more recently I started bleeding after having sex.

Then I was feeling twinges in the right hand of my pelvis and almost like a heavy feeling/pressure in my pelvis/back which to be honest I think are hardly there but my head is trying to convince me otherwise. I had blood tests, a pelvic ultrasound and then swabs to check for infections and all came back clear so of course I went into panic mode!! I was then referred for a colposcopy which I've just had and the colposcopist told me it was cervical ectropion. She took a biopsy to be safe after I asked "so I definitely don't have cancer?" about 5 times. She said there was nothing to suggest I did but ectropion can often obscure it slightly.

I thought our stories sounded similar and I'm only early 20s too so I hope that this can reassure you that it's more than likely to be something like ectropion!

I've been stressed for weeks about this so I know exactly how you're feeling but please try to stay calm, busy and positive xxx (easier said than done I know!)
