Throat cancer symptoms at 19, please help!

Hello, am a 19 year old female who thinks she may have throat cancer. Please help! Has anyone else had similar symptoms or experiences?

About a year and a few months ago I had a sore throat, it felt like burning, i also had a lot of discomfort in my neck when trying to sleep, it felt like I needed to crack it almost? this all seemed to stem from a night of heavy drinking and smoking, i remember I woke up the next morning and my throat was burning and since then it has just seemed to escelate? I went to the doctors a week after my sore throat persisted and she put it down the muscle spasms from the smoking. I then started getting ear pain and that's when I started to get really worried about it so I went to the doctors again and she gave me medication for post nasal drip. The symptoms kept on and I then started to develop difficultly swallowing, it feels like my natural urge to swallow has gone so I have to think about it, it's like I can't just swallow I have to do it manually rather then it being a reflex, so I went back a third time and the doctor was concerned this time but gave me gastric reflux tablets and told me that if it didn't go away to come back. But then lockdown happened and to be honest I kind of forgot about my symptoms, they didn't seem persistent enough, my sore and stiff neck didnt really seem to be there anymore, my ear pain wasn't as persistent and I seemed to be able to swallow fine when I didn't think about it, so I put that down to anxiety. But then over lockdown I noticed a lump on my neck which brought back all my anxiety about it. (The lump isn't still I can move it around) I've also been feeling nauseous lately, it feels like I'm car sick and every time I drink i throw up without fail, even after just one pint, which never happened before? Something just feels seriously wrong with my body and I don't know what to do, please help :(

  • Hi Jessica

I would go back to your Doctor and ask again for a follow up.

They should refer you to have some check ups with some specialists to be safe.

You should probably ask to see a stomach specialist who can check from your throat down into your intestines to make sure no blockages and also an ENT specialist, ear nose and throat who can check that area.

I am sure nothing to worry about,  but do not leave it.

    Thanks

    Phil

  • Hi,

The lump behind your ear is likely your glands.  They are normally raised with an infection.  It is best to go back to the doctor and get your ears and throat checked.  If you have an ear infection it can make you feel sick because it effects your balance.

Hope the doctor can help and you feel better soon.
