Cervical Cancer

Last week I went to the doctor after discovering A LOT of bumps on my cervix. It honestly felt like a cauliflower, in both space and texture. It also started bleeding after I touched it and some of them seemed to burst. That, along with a lot of watery discharge and super heavy periods the last couple of months had me pretty worried. The periods could be due to recently stopping birth control, but not the lumps and discharge.

Anyway, I went to the doctor and he told me I do not have a healthy cervix and he assumes it is cervical cancer until proven otherwise. He wanted me to get a referral for a colposcopy ASAP, but I've just been told my appointment is 10 days away which seems a very long time. Especially if I won't get the results for about 4 weeks. I just feel like the cancer would have a lot of time to spread during that time...

What makes me extra upset is that I went to a gynaecologist two years ago because I discovered lumps on my cervix(nowhere near as bad as this though) and he told me it was just scar tissue from having kids. He also took a smear and said he'd let me know if there were any issues and I never heard from him again so I just assumed everything was fine.

Not sure what I'm trying to achieve with this post, just venting I guess.

  • Hi chilichar,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope you're getting on OK - I can imagine this must all be a bit unsettling. 10 days I know probably seems a long time but it's not too bad as far as waiting times go, especially at the moment. And you may get your results sooner than expected. It's good to hear you're now on the way to getting further information about what's going on, and I hope it's not too long to wait for this.

Do use this forum at any point to chat to others or simply to vent, as you say - it's a safe space for this sort of thing.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
