Lymphoma?

Hello everyone,

So I'm feeling a little concerned and wondered if anyone could give some advice. I am a 25 year old female and for the last 2 months now I have had severly itchy underarms and also on my groin area. I tried to ignore it as I just thought it would go away on its own. I haven't changed any of my skin care. There is no rash or redness. As the itchiness continued, I googled it and the first thing that popped up was lymphoma. I had a read through the symptoms and had a feel of my lymph nodes (which felt large to me), I have fatigue, lack of appetite and also losing weight (unintentionally). I spoke to my GP regarding my symptoms and they sent me for bloods, they came back normal and my surgery NFA'd (no further action) and no one contacted me about them recieving my blood work back, I only saw because I have online access to my notes. I called them again as my symptons are still on- going and since speaking to them the first time, have started to get the most severe stomach pain that causes me to feel sick and faint. I managed to get seen in surgery on Friday the 9th of October by a senior nurse. He did a urine sample which was fine, checked my stomach which was very tender and painful. He checked my underarms/groin and confirmed there is no rash or redness. He said there was no obvious signs of anything but I am obviously having these symptoms, he told me to monitor the stomach pains and has given me a strong antihistamine for the itching to see if it helps. He said if the symptoms continue after a week or so to ring back and they will consider sending me for some more in depth tests. I don't want to tell him that I googled and this is what it said, as they always say not to google your symptoms. I have been taking the antihistamines and they aren't subsiding the itching at all, in fact I have now started to get pain in my underarms as well (note that I am not actively itching my underarms, I work in a school and it is obviously not possible to sit scratching all day).

I'm really at a loss of what to do here. This isn't like me at all, I have never had issues with my skin or pain in my stomach like I'm getting. I fear that due to COVID that its taken over a week to be seen in surgery and then not even by a doctor and just a nurse (don't get me wrong, nurses are amazing but I don't know if they have the knowledge to help me in my situation). Does anyone else have experience with this?

  • Hello Littler

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing health problems for a while now. I can see from your post that you're feeling quite concerned about what may be causing your symptoms.

As the medication hasn't improved things then do get back in touch with your GP surgery and explain the situation. Hopefully they will be able to make an appointment for you to speak/see a GP and for arrange any tests that they feel are appropriate.

I do hope that you have some answers soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Jenn. I just feel really lost with it all and I'm not being taken seriously. I think I'll try ringing them again tomorrow and explaining that the tablets aren't helping and now I'm getting this pain as well.
