High calprotectin levels - I'm scared

So,

I'm 36 mother of 4, I have had changeable stools for coming on 3 months now, mostly like water with days of constipation,

I feel sick constantly and have zero appetite, which is great for me as im overweight and could do with losing a few pounds but its not normal,

I have stomach pains that take my breath away and give me stars in my eyes, I keep sweating and boiling up,

I went to the doctor and had my smear done too as intercourse hurts and causes bleeding aswell as bleeding between periods, so I had a full MOT,

Blood tests all normal apart from inflammation markers which were slightly raised,

I have HPV virus from my smear, but most upsetting for me is my calprotectin levels, the doctor said they should be under 53, and mine were 650,

I've now been sent on a urgent 2week referral to gyne to rule out cancer

And a urgent referral to gastroenterology to see if its cancer or crohns,

People keep saying don't panic its probably nothing, but the doctor said there is clearly something going on that needs investigating, im so worried,

I cant find any info on levels of calprotectin in cancer or crohns online, the hpv virus on the letter didn't state which strain it was,

My teenage son is killing me with his anger and attitude right now, I jist want to curl up in my bed for about a week and not speak to anyone

  • [@TonyaWonya]‍ Firstly breath, you’ll be ok. I know having a high calaprotein test can spike up your nerves, I’m having one done this Wednesday and so sacred, but high levels usually point out to having Ibd. This could be Crohns, ibs, proctitis, Colitis the list goes on. You’re very fortunate in the sense that you can get these test done ASAP. I have to wait till next year and have been bleeding everyday but nothing can be done cause I’m pregnant :(

  • Thank you for your level headed reply.

Usually IBS is under 200 so doctor said its not that,

I've had my appointment through the post yesterday for November 23rd, but its a telephone appointment,

I dont know what they expect to see over the phone like, im not doing facetime haha!

  • I’m a little confused at why they have given you a telephone consultation in the 23rd November, that’s long away considering they fast tracked you for the two week referral.
  • Hi there, how are you doing?  Hope you are doing well.

Like you, I have had change in BM for the last couple of months, mainly bright yellow diarrhea, more frequency and urgency.  Also started getting a period after 2 years of having the mirena coil fitted to treat ademomyosis so worried there is a gynae tail to this.

Got referred on 14 Oct by GP through 2WW for colorectal due to FIT=65 and FC=6000 (unrecorded).  Had triage telephone conversation from hospital colorectal team on 22 Oct who is planning for CT and colonoscopy but heard nothing since. Blood booked in for 2 Nov.

I know its only been a week but given Covid and potential lockdown and the shear fact this anxiety is killing me, I went to see a private consultant this week who did sigmoidoscopy and blood test straight away, CT booked for 3 Nov and plan for gastroscopy and colonoscopy.  Sigmoidoscopy was fine only showed a small hemerroid but only looks at the very end of colon.

I am sure this anxiety is not helping as like you, I have lost appetite and constantly feel full.  Hope everything goes well with you diagnostic journey.

What was your FC result if you don't mind me asking?
