Waiting for colposcopy, very worried. Advice needed

Hi, i am 26 and have 2 children. I have been on the levest pill for coming up 4 years since I had my son. I was diagnosed with cervical ectropian about 2 years ago and had to go for treatment for that, I also had a smear that came back fine. This year I have had a few episodes of irregular bleeding. I skipped my weeks break on the pill last month and went straight on to my next pack, I have done this twice before and just not bled as expected. Anyway this time, a few days after my break was due to have finished, I started bleeding. That was about two weeks ago and I am still bleeding now. I spoke to my doctor last week after a few days of bleeding as I knew it wasn't normal. She said it could be break through bleeding due to skipping my break but she had looked at my history and said that she could see id had episodes of irregular bleeding before so its best to go in and her check my cervix and take some swabs. I went in and she took the swabs and then went to examine me, which took longer than it usually takes to check. When I was dressed and we sat down she said that she could see my cervical ectropion but that she thought she could see something else around my cervix, she said she was referring me to gynecology for a colposcopy. She then rang again 5 mins after me leaving to ask bout bleeding after sex, which at the time I had had once but since then It has happened about 4 more times. I have been bleeding for two weeks but it has been very light and on and off and varied in color, also with some small clots. A few times when I have stopped bleeding for a day and tried to have sex with my partner, the bleeding has started again and got alot heavier. Every time I think its going to stop, it carries on. Im really concerned due to her saying she could see something on my cervix. Has anyone had anything else similar? She said she was putting it through as urgent but I still haven't heard anything. I had the swab results back which only showed streb B which she said is normal for some people and if I have no symptoms it doesn't need treating.

I have also had very strange discharge in the past 5 or 6 months, iv always had alot of discharge in general but its been different. Any help or advice would be appreciated as I'm not sure whether I'm over thinking and being dramatic or whether I should actually be quite concerned. I know I won't know for sure until I have had the appointment and biopsy but still any help would be appreciated. Thank you

  • Hello Sophh4406,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your colposcopy. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for this important appointment. There is information on our website on this page on the colposcopy which I hope you will find helpful.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

It might be worth bringing up with your doctor the fact that you have had this discharge for the past 5 or 6 months and whether they can give you some advice on this.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
