Change to lumpectomy scar 2 & half years later

Hello,

I have never posted on one of these chats but feel I want to share how I'm feeling at the moment! I was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2017, aged 31. Had chemo, lumpectomy and radiotherapy. 2 days ago I noticed a slight change to my scar, there is a slight dip and change to the shape of my boob. I can't really notice it looking in the mirror but I can looking down at it. I have been to the docs and have been referred back up to the breast clinic but I am now waiting on my appointment. The Doctor thought it was probably just a change in scar tissue & has referred me to be safe. Just wondered if anyone has been through something similar. I feel like I'm going a bit crazy, worried about having to go through it all again. Many Thanks.

  • Hi Ava,

seems like you and I have similar stories. I found my lump in 2019 at age 31, had chemo, lumpectomy and radiotherapy. My last treatment was July 2020 and since then I have been trying to keep an eye on the shape and feel of my breast to track any changes in the scar tissue.
this past 10 days or so I noticed an 'extra' small lump- just the size of a pea, slightly separate from what I consider my normal lumpiness.
I called the breast care nurses and they referred me for a breast clinic appointment for my peace of mind- so that's coming up on Monday. I'm fairly sure it's nothing to worry about. But then I was also fairly sure my original lump was nothing to worry about too.
I'm almost afraid to ask- but what happened with yours? I really hope it was something innocent.

Does anyone have any top tips on how to keep track of lumps in an already lumpy and ever evolving breast? That's the part that makes me so paranoid...

    Thanks

    Becky

  • Becky,

You may no longer be on this forum as a few years ago. However I would be interested in how this change progressed for you or Ava.

I had lumpectomy, sentinel lymph node removal and chemp/radiotherapy for TNBC also 2 and half years ago. I was 50 then but 52 now.

Similarly I had some redness appear above my scar then noted a new and pea like lump a few weeks back. My husband insisted I go to my GP, although I think it is only fatty breast necrosis. I am currently waiting on my urgent appointment from the breast clinic after GP appointment 1 week ago.

    Thanks,
