On 2 week referral and scared i have bowel cancer

Hi

Ive been having dull ache very low in my abdomen slightly to the left. Its a cross between period pain and poo pain. (Im 47 and my periods stopped a couple if years ago)

My upper tummy has been bloated and felt uncomfortable for a few months. The pain / ache has got stronger and is now waking me at night. Ive explained all to doctor and shes put me on 2 week wait for tests

Needless to say im petrified. I have 2 young daughters.

  • Hi, the waiting game is not easy I'm there too at the moment.  Talking helps, I'm finding it easier to talk to those who are not so close.  If you'd like a natter please feel free to get in touch.

    Hugs x

  • Hi yes, happy to chat, hope your getting on ok. What symptoms are you experiencing  x

  • Mine is query gastro intestinal stromal tumour, found last Thursday.  Biopsies taken during an endoscopy and now just waiting.  I haven't really had bad symptoms, it was only found from a CT scan I had back in June but I understand that is the nature of the beast.

I can understand your fear, especially since you have young children.  Be good to yourself.  Are you sleeping ok? X

  • Hi,

I have been having similar for the past 8 weeks, but I'm not sure if the pain/dull ache was bought on by the anxiety of it all.

I had my colonoscopy today, and pleased to say there was nothing they could see, apart from a 1mm slight inflammation of the colon, which may have been caused by the endoscope.

it's so hard not to worry, but please try not to jump to the cancer idea just yet. I have a family history of IBD and ulcerative colitis which is why they took some biopsies, but there was no cancer present at all.

so so many things can cause dull aches and bloating, but please please try not to google anything. Google has seriously affected me, and I'm sure I'm suffering from ptsd from googling every twinge I've had over the past 8 weeks.

I was referred due to having bleeding and a 10 score on my FIT test, which is blood in stool, and even though that's the case, I'm clear of anything seriously sinister.

sending a big hug, and prayers that you tests come back clear.

  • Googling symptoms is seriously bad for your health. I was fairly carefree back in the Summer but had some blood in my stool, wasn't overly concerned until i googled, and have been suffering from health anxiety ever since and it has literally made me ill.
