Hysteroscopy

Hi, I'm going to get a hysteroscopy done.
I was just wondering does this hurt with out general anesetic? And also is there anyone as young as me having this kind of problem? I'm age 19. It's very worrying!

  • Hi lovely,

I had a hysteroscopy last year at 22 but I was put asleep. I think if you can, ask for GA as I can imagine it to be very uncomfortable. If you google hysteroscopy action there's a support group about allowing women the choice of sedation. I know with covid and everything things are up the wall but definitely ask for sedation!

I was worried too but it turned out to be fine. Whatever symptoms you're suffering with now, you have to think of the end goal that all these tests you may be having will hopefully help you find out what's wrong and fix it.

Hope it goes okay for you! X

  • Yes they said I could have general anesetic but obviously with Covid I have to self isolate 2 weeks before hand and I wouldn't be able to do that with taking my son to school and stuff, and thank you x

  • Hi, I have literally just had a hysteroscopy today (13 Oct)... I was not put to sleep and just asked to take 2 paracetamols and 1 ibuprofen an hour before. Don't worry about the pain, it really isn't bad at all! They found large polyps in my womb so removed them, that was painful for me but the actual procedure without any polyp removals would have been fine.

  • I think everybody feels pain differently. I found it intolerable the 1st 1 I had and they couldn’t finish it. This time I had sedation and gas and air and got through it. It is an important part of any sort of diagnosis though so you need to remember that.
