Swollen lymph nodes and pain

Hi all,

I felt a lymph node under my jaw right side become inflamed about two months ago. Thought nothing of it and ignored it. Since then the other side has become swollen, both sides of my neck has thin lines swollen under at the center and pain at the rear of my head. I've also been having issues with my throat and tongue such as a soreness in the tongue and a constant need to clear my throat. The doctor referred me to an ENT after a long struggle to get through to him how serious it felt, and the ENT has said he doesn't know what's causing it and has booked me in for an MRI on Saturday.

All of these locations with swelling seem to be lymph node locations and the ones the ENT felt also were confirmed lymph nodes. I'm also getting a considerable about of pain from them.

When I first visited the ENT, he focussed on the throat clearing and diagnosed LPR and suggested to take more gaviscon. I did just that and it has improved some what, but the pain is worsening.

Everyday at the moment is dragging and I'm very anxious about getting this MRI. I'm normally healthy and I can't help but shake that it is something serious.

I don't know what I'm hoping to gain from this forum, but I need some form of escape as no one seems concerned, yet every day I'm in pain, confused and anxious, and nothing is improving.

  • Hi Ashley and welcome to the forum.

Waiting for tests is tough so I hope writing down what was on your mind has helped ease some of the anxiety you're feeling at the moment.

It's the middle of the week now so not too long to go until you have your MRI. I'm not sure if you've had an MRI before but if you haven't we have some information about it just here.

I hope this helps and all goes well on Saturday.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you Steph,

I have been for my MRI and been told it is reassuring; however, the symptoms remain. I've recently had a bad tooth sorted at the dentist and have requested some antibiotics incase I am fighting an infection that has spread. I currently have 10 lymph nodes swollen that I can feel and find it hard to believe that it is nothing. But its now a waiting game again. I'm due to go back to my GP on Monday where hopefully we can maybe explore different avenues.

Im trying to take the MRI as a positive and to try to not worry about it, but with the pain i feel around my neck, its hard to ignore it. Im also currently experiencing constant headache, fatigue and dizziness (dizziness is very rare in lymphoma apparently so who knows whats happening). I will try and keep my post updated in case anyone has similar symptoms in the future, that they may have a bit more of a clue than I currently have.
