TSH Test

I had the isthmus on my thyroid removed on September 16th.  I am feeling okay I think.

I have been told I should get a TSH blood test to see whether or not I will need some hormone supplements.

A question:

Does anyone know how long I should I wait for after the surgery to go and get the TSH test.

I am going away at the end of this week and I was thinking of have the blood TSH test done on October 16th.

Shouod I wait longer before taking the test?

  • Hi OscarM,

We have communicated before. I had my TSH test approx 5 weeks after my right thyroid was removed. I waited until I received my operation results (that was 4 weeks in my case) and asked the surgeon then, about whether I should get a TSH test now or wait longer. He suggested to get it done. I was feeling fine too and my TSH came back normal even with only half a thyroid, so no medication needed. I will get checked again in 6 months to see if that changes and then go onto the annual register to check TSH levels.

I would just book your appointment if you can get one, then your mind is at ease before you go away.

    :-)

  • Thank you very much for this.
