Referral for suspected vulval cancer. What will happen next?

Hello,

I have been referred to the hospital with suspected Vulva Cancer. I am 26.

I have had the most irritating, itchy and painful lump since June. Initially they said a bartholin cyst but now it appears not.

It bleeds constantly and is just getting bigger and angrier

my appointment has come through and it is this week (I only went back about it on Thursday)

Does anyone know what will happen when I go? I have no idea what to expect.

Will the do a biopsy?

Will they be able to tell what it is?

How long will I be there?

Will I be okay to go straight back to work (y3 teacher)

My appointment came through so fast I haven't really had time to process.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

  • Hi hun

I don’t know what they will do when you go but I would telephone the number on your appointment letter and ask to speak to the consultants secretary. He/she should be able to give you an idea of what will happen at the appointment. Is someone going with you? If possible I think it’s always best to have someone with you that can ask questions and afterwards remind you of some of the things that were said during the appointment because your head gets all over the place. Because of covid I could only take someone with me for two of my appointments; the rest I had to go alone but always nice to have someone waiting in the car park. Good luck Hun. Hope it goes well and let me know how you get on.x

  • Thank you, I will ring them on Monday.

I think my mum is going to wait in the car, I cant have anyone in with me. Husband isn't coping well as we've only just lost his Auntie x
