Large mass covering left ovary

Hey all, I've been told I have a large solid mass covering my left ovary (81 x 60 x 76mm) following an urgent ultrasound. CA125 slightly raised at 43. The notes say with suspicious  features of malignancy so clearly I'm thinking the worst as it doesn't sound promising. Have been out on the 2ww for a gynae appt. But trying to get a private CT Monday to expedite things. I'm 39, mum of 2 gorgeous children.

Symptoms: Aug had bad constipation (rarely had it before so it was out of the norm). Sept had constipation again but not as bad but had pelvic pain too which I why I went to see the GP. Aside from that I've felt fit and well.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm so scared about what lies ahead and can't stop thinking about the impact this will have on my children who need their mum to stay around.

  • I was in your position a year ago with a part solid and part fluid filled large mass on my left ovary. Having the necessary ct and mri scans and being referred to a specialist cancer centre took about 2 months before I had surgery.

I was terrified going for surgery having never been in hospital before. I was in hospital 5 days and needed quite a lot of looking after when I came home. My recovery was quite slow but I went out for short walks as soon as I was able. The hospital will probably give you some exercises to do post op and after that I started some basic Pilates.

I am now 11 months post op and almost back to normal.

Before going into hospital I made and froze meals and was very glad of easy meals when I came home from hospital.

Best wishes to you and hopefully your lump won’t be cancer like mine was. You will be better after the operation though.

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I'm so sorry you had to go through this experience but thank you for sharing as it's made me feel more positive. The waiting in limbo is just terrible. I just want to move things forward. You'd think it would be easier privately but that's not without its delays. I'm waiting on my NHS appt, rang this morning and was told I should be seen before next Friday. X

  • Thank you for sharing.

my appointment with the gyno Oncologist was dreadful chaotic and a terrible experience.

i have a cyst part solid part not.
im clinging to the hope mine will be like yours

i was finally referred 28th Sept after complaining of constant bleeding and discharge on tamoxifen.

and after a ultrasound. I have had bloods taken a polyp removed and sent for testing and a CT scan.

now i have to wait a whole week for all the results.

  • I went private too. I have an enlarged ovary but it didn't look suspicious on the US scan so the date the NHS gave me for a gynae appointment was Feb 2021! I can't wait that long!! I went private last week and had my MRI yesterday. Should get the results tomorrow. I hope all the best for you!

  • Hi Susan - please can I ask if you had been told if it was cancer before your surgery? I'm in a similar position I think but the CT and MRI were inconclusive so won't know for sure until after surgery and biopsies are done on various bits being removed! I'm scheduled to have my left ovary and Fallopian tube removed. I hope you're better now

  • Hi Sharon

The cancer wasn't diagnosed pre op. It was thought it may be a degenerated fibroid but the ca 125 was slightly raised at 56 which is why I was referred to the cancer centre for surgery.

Going to the cancer centre meant a bigger operation to thoroughly check the abdomen for any spread of cancer.

Post op the surgeon told me I had had a long difficult operation. That made me think it must have been cancer but I was not told the diagnosis until a clinic appointment a month later. The waiting was very difficult.

I was told pre op that I was having a big operation, whereas I note you are just having the ovary and Fallopian tube removed. Hopefully this means cancer is not strongly suspected.

I shall keep my fingers crossed for you but something I have realised over the last year is that life goes on despite a diagnosis of cancer. It has made me get on with a few things though and not put things off.

    Best wishes Susan

  • Hope scan is ok for you today x

  • Thanks hun! Although it's all change so I now have to wait until next Wed for a scan as I'm told I need an MRI not a CT. On the upside though my NHS appt was bought forward a week to today so I'm seeing a consultant gynae so hoping I'll be clearer on next steps and NHS timelines. X

  • Oh hope that was ok. And you got some more info

  • So tesults today was mixed. Nothing found conclusive on CT scan

so now being sent for an MRI SCAN.

my polpy was looked at and no womb cancer do thays good.

my Ca blood test slightly raised 55 which is not conclusive of anything.

so MRI to investigate more closely the suspect right ovary cyst.

two more weeks to wait for results,
