Black Spot on Mole that went away

Hi,  I have a mole on my arm which, last week, i noticed a small black spot in the middle of it.  The mole itself has been there for many years (as long as i can remeber - currently 27.) and i have photos from several years ago where it can clearly be seen on my arm. Anyway, i noticed this black spot on it about 4 days ago.  It was every so slightly raised if you brushed your finger over it (not visible unless holding the arm up to the light in a certain orientation). Last night following a shower, i was drying myself and the black spot became detached from the mole and 'fell off'.  The  mole now looks exactly the same as it did before! Even colour and approx 2mm in diameter, completely flat.  It has never bled and does not itch at all. Had i not seen it last week - i would be none the wiser! Anyway, realising you cannot give medical advice, has anyone seen this before? The skin looks exactly the same as before! I am thinking of seeing the doctor, but wondered if anyone had seen this before?  I get very paranoid about things like this unfortunately! Thank You.

  • Hello JB3456

We'd suggest that anyone who has concerns about changes in a mole contacts their GP who will be best placed to offer you some advice and make an appointment if necessary.

I hope that they are able to offer you some reassurance.

  • Hey!

The same thing just happened to me. I noticed a small black spot on my mole and just like you- I am one to freak out. But now after a hot shower and lots of coconut oil it fell off and the mole looks exactly like before.
Just checking if you're ok and if you went to see a GP?

  • Helo, I was referred to a dermatologist who took a look at all my moles with a dermascope. It turned out to be the result of a myosin naevus change to quote the dermatologist. He said it is nothing sinister. Looking up meyerson nevus on the web explains it better. It happened on a couple of my moles and appeared to go away after a few weeks.

I still keep an eye on all my moles regularly but would recommend you see a doctor if you are worried. I cannot say if your issue is the same as mine and i am not a medical professional so cannot give any guidance, but I spent weeks pondering whether I should see a doctor and stressing over it. Although the process of being referred to a specialist was stressful in its self, the fact of having someone qualified laying things out in black and white is worth it. I wish I had spent less time over thinking and had gone sooner. It would have saved sleepless nights...

I hope your issue gets sorted and is nothing to worry about.

  • I will keep an eye on it and try to get a referral. Thank you for your answer x

Hope this will help someone else too! I am definitely much calmer now.

  • Hi there, posting in case helps anyone, I found a black spot on a newish mole, a week later a layer of skin peeled off the mole with black mark on it, the spot was then gone, I saw gp as was worried with change in colour and peeling, she said it was likely trauma to mole caused it too bleed and scab then peel, said it was nothing to worry about but was wise to get it checked out.  Posting in case helps anyone as I always Google while waiting for GP!

  • Hey I'm sure it's fine but I've also been told by a doctor things are fine and nothing to worry about then 4 years later told I might have gallbladder cancer not to worry you but without proper investigations or biopsies a second opinion wouldn't hurt.
