Letter from hospital to doctor has cc'd Macmillan nurse in

My mum who is 60 has recently gone in hospital for tests after seeing her doctor for two counts of post-menopausal bleeding.

She has had a hysteroscopy, a tranvaginal, a biposy, a blood count including CA125 for endometrial cancers, a smear test and most recently, an MRI scan. The smear test came back clear but she is still waiting back for the rest. Everything has been done within the last few weeks.

On the latest letter from the hospital gynaecologist consultant to her doctor (my mum gets sent these letters also), it uses lots of medical terminology, but on the bottom it shows all medical professionals who the letter has been cc'd to, and one of them is a MacMillan nurse for the gynaecology oncology unit. She hasn't been diagnosed with anything yet, so is this something to worry about?

  • Hello CharlstonMarlston

Given that your Mum has had a number of tests and that you've said there are a few medical professionals who have been cc'd into the letter I wonder if your Mum's situation has been discussed at an MDT. This is a multidiscpilinary team meeting where specialists from lots of different departments meet together to discuss a patient and decide on the most appraopraite way foward. If this has been the case then it may account for why the Macmillan nurse has been cc'd into the letter.

If you're concerned about the contents of the letter and what is going on for your Mum then do give her GP or Consultant a call and ask for some clarification about things.

Hopefully she will have some news about a diagnosis soon and the team will be able to offer some reassurance.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Jenn, thank you so much for your reply. Yes, that may be the case. I think she is just waiting for the results now and trying not to worry.

    Thank you.
