Waiting on Bone Marrow test results.

 Hi all,

I'm a 43 yesr old male currently waiting for the results of a bone marrow biopsy.  I have had only a slightly elevated WBC over the last 3 months, rising a little each time 17 -21- and now 26 but with a healthy red blood count every time.  That, coupled with a few other symptoms that come and go resulted in the heamotolagist requesting a bone marrow biopsy.

Does anybody know how long these results take? It will be 3 weeks tomorrow.

Is it possible to have leukemia when the red blood count is normal and healthy? If not, then I am worring for nothing.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Craig77

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some health concerns recently. I think if you've still not heard anything about your results then it's not unreasonable to give the hospital or your GP a call for an update.
Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer and the results will bring some reassurance about what has been causing your symptoms.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Jenn and thanks for the reply.

I did phone the hospital on Wednesday and Thursday requesting test results even though I have a phone consultation booked for the 16th of October.  I never recieved a call back.

Now to makes things worse, I have recieved a letter this morning from the hospital postponing my appointment until the 23rd.

So 5 weeks and a day to get bonemarrow biopsy results.

The wait is driving me mad, a 2 minute phonecall is all it would take.

  • Hi Craig77

I do understand how frustrating it can be waiting for results. Sometimes people report that their results are delayed whilst waiting for an MDT to discuss things. Whilst it means that you'll have to wait a little hopefully once you do get your results the Consultant will be able to give you a clear picture of what's happening for you and be in a position to answer your questions.

If you'd like to talk things throug hwith one of our team of nurses in the meantime you're most welcome to give them a call. They may be able to offer some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello there! I think you need to contact the clinic's reception again. It's too strange what they take so long to do.

  • Hi there,

I am in the same boat, any updates how it went for you?

    Thanks
