Spotting between periods and cervix bleeding

Hello, hoping posting will put my mind at rest. I've been having spotting between my periods which has been going on for a few years, I have had various tests and they assumed it was down to my contraception and it seemed to disappear for a while. The last few months it's started again and last few weeks I have also had pain in my vagina, cramping like period pains and the feeling I need to wee more often.

I went to the Dr's on Monday and she could see my cervix was bleeding, also had more spotting and blood in my urine, the pain is also pretty much constant. She said it could be Cervical ectropion but has reffered me for an urgent gynaecology appointment and said I will need a Colposcopy.

I was hoping to get booked in for the Colposcopy straight away but understand its difficult with covid, however I am having a telephone appointment first with the gynaecologist.... Im really worried and wondering why they want to speak to me first before booking the Colposcopy... Any advice would be really appreciated, sorry for the long post.

  • Hi Deb,

I'm going through something similar, I completely understand the panic! I hope you hear back soon, and that they can get on with the colposcopy asap. Fingers crossed for you that it all comes back clear and you can put your mind at rest.

Can I ask, did they do a smear test? That might come back clear and hopefully reassure you. It often has false positives but very rarely fals negatives which is nice.

I hope you find some peace of mind soon :)

  • Hi,

Thank you so much for taking time to read my post and reply, it's reassuring to know I'm not alone. I hope you are doing ok and get some answers soon too.

They have moved my telephone appointment now to Monday which I'm pleased about so glad it's only a few days away and hopefully will reasure me speaking to the gynaecologist.

The Dr took some swabs but I didn't think to ask what they were for, I'm not sure if it's different when you go in with spotting and other symptoms to when you go for your actual smear test (sorry its probably me being very thick). I'm hoping I will hear back about the swabs soon too, as you say will be reassuring if they are clear.

Thanks again, its good to speak about it with others going through similar situations.

  • Oh that's great news! Hopefully the gyno gives you some more information.

I totally agree, it's nice to talk to people going through the same thing as you. Whenever I talk about it with friends or family I often find myself reassuring them more than the reassure me!

We're both going to find out eventually what is going on, fingers crossed for both of us it's just a scary cervical ectropion and we can go back to complaining about normal things, like the pubs closing early and the weather :)

  • I was so relieved when they moved my call to Monday, fingers crossed I get to find out some more.

Thanks you it has helped more than I thought talking on here. As you say when you discuss with family and friends it is more saying to them I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, while really we are very worried.

You are right I'm sure we will find out soon what's going on and it is just a cervical ectropion, fingers and toes crossed.

  • Hi there!

hope you're doing well :) I know your post is from a year ago but I'm wondering did you find out the outcome?

I have been having very similar issues and I've been on the combined pill for 5 years and I am 26 . My smear test in feb of 2020 was normal and I just had an ultrasound and blood work which was fine. I have now booked a private smear test as I'm so worried :( just looking to learn more about your experience and outcome. I've worked myself up so much! Thank you.
