MDT meeting help please

Hi all

I am new to this as my heart has just been ripped out

My son has lost 7 stone this year and after numerous tests they have decided that he has a tumour not a hiatus hernia as originally thought

This is in his oesophagus and following endoscopic ultrasound it is in excess of 5x4cm

we have been chasing his specialist for his results of his biopsies and his secretary has just phoned back to say the Doctor has said the results need to go to a MDT Meeting tomorrow for analysis and wouldnt say yes or no to cancer

Does this mean basically it is?

I have searched MDT and it doesn't sound good

Why else would it go to MDT?

Please give me hope!!

  • Hi,

So sorry to hear that your son has not been in the best of health at the moment. My mother had her result go to an MDT meeting and thankfully it was not cancer. She had some abnormal results of a scan of her ovaries which they thought might have been cancer. The MDT meeting was had to discuss her case and decide on an appropriate treatment plan for her. She had some abnormal cells that where not cancerous which was great news and they decided to remove her ovaries as a precautionary measure.

I hope that this reassures you a little bit and MDT's are in a lot of cases routine and not a cause to worry. The reason for the MDT will be to look at the test results further to determine if more are needed to get a definitive diagnosis. Getting an MDT is not always worse case scenario.

I have my fingers crossed for you. Good luck.

  • Thanks for reply

I have got everything crossed in all honesty

  • Thanks for taking time to look

However just had a call from specialists nurses and the MDT is to determine whether he needs a open surgery or if it can be removed via camera/throat

It is a benign tumour so great news
