Hysteroscopy results, will scans confirm my mum has cancer?

Hi,

After some advice, my mother had a hysteroscopy and was informed there were cancerous changes seen and is now to have an MRI and CXR for staging.

They have put a question mark on the diagnosis on the discharge paperwork next to endometrial carcinoma.

My question is, is this confirmation she has cancer and now she's to have more scans to see if it has spread and what stage it is at?

Thank you in advance

  • Hello Gallag

I'm sorry to hear that your Mother has recently needed some investigations which have raised concerns about cancerous changes.

It's likely that the scans that have been requested are to gain a more detailed picture of what is going on for her. It may also be that the Consultant has to wait for some pathology results following the hysteroscopy before they are able to confirm an exact diagnosis.

I know that many of our members here will understand how difficult and worrying this time of waiting for more news can be. I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our nurses who may be better placed to offer you some advice and information ahead of your Mother's next appointments. If you'd like to speak to them then they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn

Many thanks for your reply, it is such a worrying time.

We shall have to await scans and reports, until then I will call the number you have given.

    Thank you again
