Second breast biopsy

Hi,

I had my first breast biopsy a couple of weeks ago and they told me they didn't find any cancer in some of the results but not all results were clear enough so I have to have another biopsy. Has anyone else had this? I'm now terrified that it means maybe something was wrong with those cells and that's why they want a second one. I'm also terrified as it really hurt the first time. Is that normal?  I've asked if I could have more anestetic next time but I don't know if thats possible. Perhaps I have a low pain threshold but I've had a c section before and that didn't hurt. Although I imagine I was more drugged up. Ha ha!

I'm 35 years old with two little boys at home so my mind has taken me to some dark places this past couple of weeks. The waiting is just horrible!!

However, I know I should be incredibly grateful that no cancer has been found so far. X

    Hi Emma,

Welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear of the stress that you're experiencing.

It is not uncommon to have inconclusive results for various reasons, but not all turn out to be nasty. I have had two bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years and, had to have additional tests to reach a clear diahnosis. It is important that your consultant can be absolutely certain that all is clear. If there is something untoward present, it is important that it is caught as early as possible.

I am sorry to hear that your biopsy hurt last time, and can understand why you are not keen to repeat the process. Make sure that you let your team know this, as they can always top up your anasthetic if it doesn't take.

The waiting is always a stressful time, but I hope that you get an appointment soon and, that they still show that no cancer has been found.

Please keep in  touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
