Raised CA125

Hi, I'm 45 and three years ago I was getting a few water infections, I was referred to hospital where I had an ultrasound where there was a small grey area an looked liked a fibroid, I then went into surgery where they checked my ovaries and tubes and they all came back clear, at the time my CA125 was slightly raised and I was supposed to have another blood test to check if it had gone down. Weeks and months went by and years and I hadn't gone back for bloods, 1 month ago I had another water infection and the doctor wanted me to have a CA125 blood test, this also came back as slightly raised and no change in 3 years. I have a very bloated tummy and back pain and am worried it is the big C. I am waiting for another ultrasound and on the waiting list, wondering do I go private?

  • Hello LucyBar,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your ultrasound. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results and I hope that the waiting list isn't very long. You mentioned you were considering perhaps going private. We have useful information on this page on comparing NHS with private cancer treatment which I hope will help you make up your mind as to whether going private would be beneficial to you.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
