HPV following CIN3 treatment

Hi ladies,

I'd been holding off posting but after 6 months of worry, I'm still confused.

About 5 years ago, I had a successful LLETZ treatment following the single symptom of bleeding after sex - at the time, no further details (e.g. anything regarding HPV or CIN cells) were given and I went on like normal

Last year, I had the same symptoms, had a colposcopy and was told I had CIN3 cells which were treated in Jan of this year.

I waited 6 months and recently had my follow up smear. I just recieved a letter saying I have HPV but that 'no abnormal cervical cells were found'.

They are arranging a colposcopy appointment for me which will come through the post.

I guess I have a couple of questions:

- Does no abnormal cells mean none of the precancerous CIN cells?

- What is the colposcopy to look at if they've concluded there's no cells as I was under the impression HPV can't be treated unless it's to remove cells that are abnormal?

Any advice would be really appreciated :)

Any advice would be great -

  • Hi Ranchababs and welcome to the forum.

I see you have some questions about your latest screening results and the colposcopy that is being scheduled so I just thought I'd give you our cancer nurses telephone number as they're very knowledgeable in this area and may be able to help. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m so do give them a call if you'd like to talk things through.

    Kind regards,
