Breast clinic referral

Hi guys , first time posting on here! I've been referred to the breast clinic , it's been over a week since my gp referred me . I was wondering how long it takes? And do they send a letter or phone you with a appointment? I'm really trying to stay positive and not panic but I don't just have one symptom , I have quite a few and in both breasts . I'm only 29. Thanks in advance for your help ️

  • Hi

i found a swelling to right of my right breast, almost on my flank. Was seen by a nurse at the GPS this Monday who said it was "a wee one", moveable and painless. Due to my mother having had cancer twice she's referring me to the breast clinic at the hospital. Today I've received the appointment for the one stop appointment this Monday coming. Is it normal to get an appointment that quickly? I know about the two week turnaround but am frightened that it's come through quickly as there is something really wrong. Plus am now frightened by the whole testing process and am dreading Monday.

    Hi Julesric,

I am sorry to hear about your swelling, but glad to hear that you have followed up on it. Please don't worry about the speed with which you've got your appointment. We have to be seen within 2 weeks, but it is not unusual to get one sooner. Staff get us in as soon as possible to try and reduce the anxiety that we all feel at this time.

The testing process is very straightforward. You will find the care team very understanding and reassuring. You will see your consultant, who will discuss your symptoms. This will be followed by an examination of your breasts. You are then likely to have a mammogram and/or an ultrasound. If a lesion is found, you may also have a biopsy. These are all very simple procedures and you shouldn't have any problems.

If you are given a biopsy, you will then have to wait for 1-2 weeks before you get the results. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi all

Sorry if I posted this is in the wrong place. Went to the Doctor on Monday with a lump and got referred for further tests which I've now found out are next Friday.

Dr didn't sound too concerned really but of course I'm worried! I have really lumpy breasts anyway so have always struggled with checking them but over the past few months I felt like there was a defined lump that's soft and smooth. The whole area around it is just generally lumpy though and there's also a kind of ridge near the lump.

It also worries me that I didn't get the lump checked for a while purely because I couldn't decide if it was a lump or not.

The Dr mentioned me having a mammogram but the letter from the breast clinic says you won't have one if under 40 (I'm early 30s). That's fine but I hate getting conflicting information as it always worries me that other info could be wrong!

Anwyay just thought I'd come on here and share. Hope everyone is doing ok xxx

  • Sorry I didn't mean to reply directly to your post with my own story! I hope everything goes ok for you xxx
