Possible tonsil / throat cancer

Hello,

I wasn't too sure if I should post at first but I feel so alone at the moment, I'm not sure what's going on wit my body but I know something isn't right..

just looking for someone to relate to or to hear similar stories.

so for 5 years I had a rather big lump on my neck where my thyroid is, I should have had it looked at sooner but I was having so much go on in my life that I just forgot about it.. until last year I had noticed it was the size of a golf ball so I went to my gp who then sent me to ENT where I had an endoscopy and an ultrasound all to which appeared like a cyst from there views and was measuring 2.5cm and I needed a biopsy.. but the ultrasound lady was very persuasive in me not having the biopsy due to me being pregnant and the possibility of infection.. so I decided just to leave it and have it done once I had my son even though the ent was very adamant that I should have a biopsy.

so this year about 2 months ago, after I had my son I decided to go back because I was experiencing a lot of other symptoms and the lump had gotten much larger over time..

symptoms~
•night sweats

•ear pain

•sore throat

•jaw pain

• itchiness in armpits

• constant headaches

•the feeling of needing to clear my throat constantly

so I went straight to my GP who did a full blood count including my thyroid function which all came back normal.

she referred me back to the ENT.

about 2 weeks later I had the appointment to see the ENT which unfortunately was a different person so I had to start the process all over again Anyways.. he wasn't too concerned about the lump but sent me for the endoscopy and ultrasound again which now showed the lump grew to 5cm so she biopsied it and last week the results came back as cystic fluid which also contained a very small amount of cancerous cells.

The ENT has put me on antibiotics to see if these symptoms are caused by a possible infection because my left tonsil he said is very swollen whilst the other side isn't at all.

well I'm almost done with the antibiotics and nothing has changed at all other than I appear to also have 2 small skin lumps near my uvula and I have so much pain in my ears, neck and throat.

has anyone else had anything similar? I know something isn't right but the ENT doesn't see me for another 2 weeks yet and has requested that I have my tonsils removed for testing ... I'm 24 with 2 children so I'm just trying to remain positive but also just wanting answers but all of this is just such a long process ..

Many thanks X

  • Hey kay,

Youre exactly the same as me. I'm waiting for an mri now but I really want a biopsy done! I'm 24 as well with a daughter so I know how you're feeling! Update when you know more!

    rhiannon xx

  • Hey Rhiannon,

reallt push for the biopsy! At my second appointment they weren't going to do it until I told them I HAD to have it done. I hope your doing okay, it's such a scary time especially when you have children than depend on you xx

I will keep updating this as soon as I know more xx

  • Hi

I am sorry you're going through this but hopefully it'll go away soon, it has been there for a while so it'll take time and you might need another biopsy/ultrasound to see the changes within its structure

Sometimes our lymph nodes react to infections and remain swollen for years but it's good you had it checked this time.

I would contact the ENT consultant as soon as you're done with your antibiotics course

I am trying to stay positive as well and I understand what you're going through

My lump has been on the left side of my neck and the gp years ago checked it and said it was a normal swollen lymph node, earlier this year i started to have insomnia, pain in my joints, cold intolerance, hair loss, and all the typical hypothyroidism symptoms plus drenching night sweats, I've also found multiple lymph nodes on my neck both sides but nothing on my thyroid so i was referred urgently to ENT, my ultrasound showed multiple cystic lymph nodes, all my blood results came back normal, no sign of any infection or inflammation, I also have soreness in my throat and tinnitus in my left ear which started suddenly this February as well as stabbing pain in my right one, my thyroid also showed heterogeneous encho texture on the ultrasound which combined with my cystic nodes isn't a good sign, i am now waiting for them to give me a biopsy appointment.

Please let me know how it goes and i am hoping all goes well
