Kidney cancer

I had a scan two years ago and was told I had a large cyst on my kidney, I was told it was benign it wasn't tested, and it wouldn't grow or cause problems and sent away. I started getting sick dangerously high blood pressure, sepsis and went in hospital still they told me it was benign and I was just anxious. I lost weight was in constant pain blood pressure still going despite being on three types of pills for it, night sweats, again I was told it was all in my head. After a year of this I started coughing up blood, a lot of blood so went to the hospital, where I was told to take up drinking wine as it might help my anxiety. I then saw my respiratory consultant who listened to me and did a ct scan. Within a week I was in hospital having my kidney removed and had stage 2 cancer. I was sent home at Christmas quite ill and had developed gastritis and still didn't feel well. When I saw the consultant after Christmas he told me I had another cyst now rather large on my remaining kidney and when I asked if it was cancer he told me I was paranoid and sent me away. He refused to do my six month scan to see if it had spread. I started getting pain in my right hip and saw a different doctor and had X-ray and the specialist said he feels it's my cancer spread as I have a lot of symptoms and can't walk now. I have never seen an oncologist and my urologist has refused to see me as requested by my gp four times now as he says it's just paranoia on my part. My gp did bloods and water tests and my renal function is low and my white blood cells are very high. I am so scared but can't get anyone at the hospital to see me

  • Hello libertyuk,

I can understand why you are feeling a bit worried and would like to be seen by someone at this stage. It is surprising that your urologist has refused to see you despite your GP referring you four times. It sounds like it would be indeed a good idea to be seen by a specialist especially if your blood tests and water tests flagged some areas of concern. I would suggest you alert your GP to the situation and explain that you would really like to be seen - perhaps you could ask to be referred to a different hospital if you feel you are not presently getting anywhere. Do tell your doctor that the urologist has refused to see you, that you have also been refused a six months scan and that you simply feel you are not being taken seriously at the moment. Don't hesitate to ask your GP whether there is any way you could get a second opinion on this. You can find out more about getting a second opinion on this page

I hope you manage to get somewhere with this and that you do get to see a specialist at the hospital soon.

    Best wishes,
