Mole on chest has turned into a red firm shiny bump

Hey everyone I’m new to this. I am a 28 year old women who has a mole on my chest that has got larger and changed over the last 2 months and now appears to be a red firm shiny bump. At first back in July I thought it was just a small red spot on my chest so I picked at it and then it bleed for ages so I knew something wasn’t right then. But my family was telling me it’s just a spot or a mole I’ve picked etc no need to worry it’s fine so I left it. But after looking back at pics since July Ive recently noticed it has got larger and appears more like a blood blister now with some tiny darker red vessels. I have been freaking myself out a lot by looking at similar picture online of nodula melonoma, they are the only images I can relate it to . I came back to the UK in May after travelling and living in Aus for a year and a half and although I wore sun protection all the time, I’m now so worried I have skin cancer, I’m worrying myself sick that I haven’t even eaten all day and had a headache since yesterday. I have spoke with the doctor on the phone because of coronavirus I sent photos of my mole instead and they have asked me to go in tomorrow morning and go from there.

I’m just really panicking myself and cannot sleep...I’m hoping to speak to someone on here who’s had something similar or maybe to help me calm down a bit. ️ Thank you

  • Hi,

I'm sorry that I've just seen your post and you have probably seen your GP by now. I'm guessing that they may have said they will refer you to a dermatologist on the 2 week pathway. If so, please don't immediately think that's it definitely melanoma - a GP can't diagnose something that looks suspicious, only a dermatologist can, usually after it's been removed and biopsied.

75% of people referred to a dermatologist are given a clean bill of health. For those diagnosed with melanoma, treatments are now showing great promise so try not to think that this is a fine deal.

Please let us know how you got on this morning

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)

  • Hello Angie,

Thanks so much for the reply I appreciate it a lot. And yes I saw a GP this morning and he has referred me to see someone at the hospital. He said to me that it does look suspicious so will need to be checked out further etc. I did think that would be the case, I’m just worried that I should of gone to the doctor sooner as it’s been there since July. I keep thinking 2 weeks is a long time to wait if it is serious. I completely understand why there is a wait but I am just panicking so much now I feel sick all the time.

Thank you for the facts and the reassurance though, it does help with the worrying.
