Day one - found lump, referred to breast clinic

This morning has been a roller coaster. Couple of days ago I found a lump.... was it real  ? Maybe not...maybe it wont be there tomorrow ( monday) crack on..keep your mind occupied..dont think about it. Monday...still there.... and now looking in the mirror theres a crease in the skin...ish... This isnt going to go away is it...  Tuesday...... right Stop being a coward..it might not be the big C.... but do you honestly think a) it's going to go away on it's own? b) you can carry on knowing it's there? ...

Wednesday: 9am emailed the surgery on their askmygp app.

Typed in " I've found a lump in my breast " ..cue tears...

Couple of hours pass while I try and concentrate on nothing much.

Call from clinician at the surgery..lots of questions about where it is, how big it is, does it move, is it attached, any redness, any discharge.

Referred to breast clinic. Usually two weeks but because of COVID...they are a bit behind ..could be 3 weeks.... . Be prepared they will probably do an ultra sound scan and a biopsy there and then.

Im not concerned about what they do ...liar... but the

.sooner the better. I just need to know what this is!! And hope it isnt what I think it is. No family history of BC..... everything crossed.

  • Hi,

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago! When I went to clinic (last Wednesday) I had mammogram and ultrasound. Radiographer was not worried about the lump/ swelling that has sent me there but said he felt something else. So he decided to do a biopsy there and then. It was nowhere near as bad as I would have expected. Practically painless. He put in a tiny marker for future ref, took another mammogram to be certain it was in the right place and that was it. A bit sore and bruised after but totally manageable.

I got a call today from consultant to say it was benign and doesn't need any follow up. So there are positive stories- try not to worry too much! Fingers crossed for you. Waiting is hard. I have an MRI on 21st Oct on pancreas so scared stiff about that!- Another waiting game :(

I hope all works out well for you. Take care. x

  • Hi

Thank you for replying. You feel so alone. Only hubby and my sister know..had to tell someone. Trying not to think of how to tell the kids if it IS BC. You can see I'm galloping down the road of scenarios. Which is worse making mental lists just incase? Or not in the hope you wont have to? Moved things around in 2 bedrooms yesterday just to keep me busy. If it's a 3 week wait this will be the tidiest house in the countyFell apart half way through tea...no apparent reason..wasnt thinking about it at the time.

Lost my dad in July...this really easnt needed on top of all that.

    Xxxx

  • Goodluck with your results, hope its not as bad as you were thinking..

Sending prayer and hugs your way.xxx

  • Hey all, so I have invasive ductal cancer. Which is in most of my lymph nodes. I am er and pr positive but waiting on her2 results. So that will then pave the way for treatment wether I will have surgery first or chemo first. But radiation is almost certain.
I will have a complete lymph node removal also. Xxx

  • Hi tashag86

It sounds like I am going to follow in the same foot steps as you. I was diagnosed last week with ductal cancer but that's all I know atm.

I have ct scan tomorrow and mri Friday.

I have one tumor in my breast very small which I didn't even notice and one under my armpit which is how I got here in the first place! They think 3 of my lymph nodes are affected

I'm glad they are getting you sorted out and will soon be starting treatment soon.

This waiting stage is awful and I'm petrified I'm riddled with it. I have come to terms with having cancer I just want to start treatment and be on the right path to beating this!

Take care sending lots of love xx

  • Ladies I'm so sorry to hear this news. You will beat it! A strong attitude will go a long way towards recovery. I can't imagine the mental suffering your all going through at the worst possible moment in time too

Sending love, hugs and plenty of prayers your way

    Xxxxxx

  • Hi.... I have no idea on these numbers either. But apparently 84 is high....very high.

The toe..god bless it has still here. Saw the podiatrist....I have had a chilblain episode....... no I couldnt believe it either.  Anyway shes referred me to the same hospital I am under for the breast clinic.  Missed a call from them in way to see practice nurse after podiatrist. Get home and a raft if ansaphone messages landed on my mobile all from different hospital depots last Thursday...friday ..Saturday and Sunday @@@@

So tomorrow will  a trying to get hold of them all. Nit sure why my phone us not letting me answer " private numbers "

Doppler tomorrow, dressing change and another pin *** thursday. And ni doubt someone will clobber me for Friday!! I admire how brilliant they all are at pulling out the stops for me at the mo. But I could do with a day off........ oh and got to see the vein man too....apparently

    Hows you?

    #alkinittogether xx

  • Oh bless you! It's never ending isn't it?

I'm fine, bruise is finally going on my boob, just fed up now with not seeing people cos of lockdown. It's strange, since my cancer scare I feel like I shouldn't complain about anything when there are people out there with real problems. I keep reminding myself how lucky I am!

Keep smiling! You'll get sorted soon, at least your getting answers and treatments for various other things now

    Xxxxxx

  • girls im so sorry your all having such bad results at the moment. Hopefully things will start moving more quickly for you and hoping your treatments  and ops all go ahead soon! im still waiting to be seen. havent heard anything from the mp since i first spoke to him almost 2 weeks ago. I did manage to get hold of my PALS team though and the lady said she was going to try and chase things up. i am starting to worry now though. i have lost a lot of family members to cancer. my uncle was 42 when he died of lung cancer. my cousin was 11 having kidney cancer. 3 of my grandparents had lung cancer. 1 had brain cancer. its just so annoying that its almost been 9 months since i was referred

  • Hello lovely,

I honestly think your sad plight is a case for local TV coverage it is just so dreadful you have been practically abandoned. Huge luck with an answer soon

  • Hi ladies

Thought I'd check in and see how your all doing

    Sending much love xxxxxx

  • Hi

Not been in a good place. Been to more appts than you can shake a stick at.  Foot clinic... docs....referred to diabetic clinic....referred to here there and everywhere.

Complete meltdown on Friday....... no word re cancer surgery.

Cant make plans for xmas....because I dint know what's happening next. Got 3 appts dec 2nd, be cutting it fine if I manage to get from 1 to 2.......hair looks like wurzel gummage... I feel like ***!!

Since starting diabetic meds never felt so bloody crap..... tired....no appetite..... getting up at night x 3 to pee. Flaming knackered.

Oh...and my own mobile vampire to test my blood 3 times a day. My glucose has dropped from 18 last week to averaging 9....9.5 ish.

They did say once it was stabilised then surgery would happen....... really? Is this stabilised? Cos I feel about as stable as a half rotted lettuce leaf....

    Stat safe

  • Whatnext-I'm so sorry you're still going through such a hard time! I only had gestational diabetes and that was bad enough so what it must be like for you on top of everything else..well I just can't imagine!

i finally had my appointment today-mammogram, ultrasound then core biopsy. Consultant then told me its definitely breast cancer albeit hopefully a small one caught early. He said he should have it all wrapped up by christmas (not sure if he meant it as a pun!) as long as the biopsy result doesn't throw out any nasty surprises!

My boob is sore, I have a headache and I can't get over the shock and as many people say on here-telling people is horrible!
Anyway I'm thinking of you Whatnext and really hope you get sorted soon!!! Xxxx

  • Hi ladies,

just discovered this thread and am so impressed by all your positivity and support, far more helpful than googling!!! It’s so good to have somewhere to come to chat with people who are going through exactly the same feelings/emotions

I discovered quite a large lump on the upper part of my left breast, on my chest muscle i think - I was about 8 weeks pregnant at the time so just put it down to that. I went on to have a miscarriage a few weeks later and the lump is still there. I asked my gynaecologist on my last visit and he has referred me for a mammogram but didn’t really comment on whether he could feel it or not  :( I have my appointment on the 10th December which feels such a long wait and I am now stressing and thinking why I didn’t go earlier. We are currently living in France so the language barrier is difficult.

  • Hi Yellow76,

so sorry to hear about your miscarriage-that must have been really tough.
It is nerve-wracking waiting for your appointment but you have to remember that 9 times out of 10 these lumps are cysts or other benign pests! Also the appointments can be different for different people. You might get sent home straight after the mammogram and ultrasound if they can see its nothing sinister or you may have a biopsy. Strangely a friend of mine in Rennes is going through exactly the same as me and the French health care does seem very good.

No point telling you not to worry as thats natural but you are taking action which is the important thing.

Hope all goes well for you.

    Much love xx

  • Thank you for your kind reply, I am trying not to worry and stay positive, my OH just thinks it is a bruise but I think it would have gone by now. I am just trying to keep busy.

The healthcare in France when I had my miscarriage was excellent but I just worry things will get lost in translation!!

I hope everything goes well for your friend too.

    Xx

  • Hi everyone.

Iv just read through is thread and honestly how inspiring are you.

First of all I'd like to say sorry your going through all this and I hope things start moving in regards to treatments soon.

I'm here because I'm 30 and found a breast lump last week. I have been reffered for a urgent appointment at the breast clinic which is a 2-4 week wait.

Dr who examined me wasn't my usual Dr but she seemed concerned which has scared the hell out of me.

My mum had bc when she was 34.

    This waiting time is torture.

I have a 4 year old and all I keep thinking is, oh my god she needs her mum.

Anyway. Just wanted go introduce myself and say we're all in this together.

    Take care everyone. Xx

  • Hello lovely

sorry to hear about all your ongoing "stuff" bloody awful. I've been dealing with "stuff" too. Husbands annual check up doe his bladder cancer showed cancerous cells have returned so he has a small procedure last week My mastectomy booked for tomorrow and  until I'm actually waiting in the operating theatre I won't breath out. I'm not terrified of the op aa

much as I am terrified of the follow up appointment telling me what was found and what my plan is and dare I say what my life expectancy is ..... when I feel like the strong warrior I occasionally am I will report back. Meanwhile love love love to all of you fighting this bloody thing x x x x

  • Hi gingergirl

Sorry ...been right off colour. How are you? How did your op go.

Looks like it's been quiet on here. I've not felt like talking to anyone.

    Anyway...update.

The dodgy toe was/is a *** chilblain!! The pain has been excruciating. But toe is now a lovely shade of pink, and a lot less painful.

This Wednesday I have my first appt at the diabetic clinic at the hospital. Apparently I'm seeing a podiatrist, diabetic specialist and a vein specialist....they are certainly pulling out all the stops. But the medication..... I'm up x 3 for a wee during the night. Which is wiping me out.  It says ..as no one has told me...its best to eat little and often. Well I'm eating little as after breakfast I feel full until well after lunch. Main meal Im struggling with a childs size portion.... feel nauseous... been on the run to the loo tonight. Feel bloated... This cant be right can it? I feel worse than I did before I found the lump!! I know meds take a while to settle down...but this is getting beyond a joke now.  Not heard from anyone at the breast clinic since Nov 16th...so no idea when anything's happening on that front. No info on what I can and cant eat ......shouldnt eat. So meal planning is " Google....can a diabetic eat  ************* ?

Had a complete melt down..so today I have taken my first anti depressant...... had to give in. Couldnt deal with all this. Practice nurse said I've gone from a no tablet lady to a minor branch of boots the chemist.

Will I be sorted before Christmas? Somethings got to change that's for sure. Cant even think about cards or pressies or the flipping turkey.

    Check back in ladies

  • Hello lovely I've been thinking about you. Sorry to hear about all your **** and you haven't even tackled the bloody cancer yet. I had my mascetomy last Wednesday and hone Thursday. I was dreading cancellation. Surprisingly straight forward but some minor hic ups when I got back. Full drain bag I had to empty with telephone instructions, then it was leaking at site of inscision, constipation like no other but .  .  Feeling surprisingly good. Results this Friday and then the treatment plan. 6 weeks ago I was completely unaware of what lay ahead now I'm on the massive roller coaster cancer express.
Husband had recall after his bladder cancer annual check up and had a small procedure - honestly you couldn't make it up.

huge love everyone and  sending superb strength xxx
