Day one - found lump, referred to breast clinic

This morning has been a roller coaster. Couple of days ago I found a lump.... was it real  ? Maybe not...maybe it wont be there tomorrow ( monday) crack on..keep your mind occupied..dont think about it. Monday...still there.... and now looking in the mirror theres a crease in the skin...ish... This isnt going to go away is it...  Tuesday...... right Stop being a coward..it might not be the big C.... but do you honestly think a) it's going to go away on it's own? b) you can carry on knowing it's there? ...

Wednesday: 9am emailed the surgery on their askmygp app.

Typed in " I've found a lump in my breast " ..cue tears...

Couple of hours pass while I try and concentrate on nothing much.

Call from clinician at the surgery..lots of questions about where it is, how big it is, does it move, is it attached, any redness, any discharge.

Referred to breast clinic. Usually two weeks but because of COVID...they are a bit behind ..could be 3 weeks.... . Be prepared they will probably do an ultra sound scan and a biopsy there and then.

Im not concerned about what they do ...liar... but the

.sooner the better. I just need to know what this is!! And hope it isnt what I think it is. No family history of BC..... everything crossed.

  • Hi,

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago! When I went to clinic (last Wednesday) I had mammogram and ultrasound. Radiographer was not worried about the lump/ swelling that has sent me there but said he felt something else. So he decided to do a biopsy there and then. It was nowhere near as bad as I would have expected. Practically painless. He put in a tiny marker for future ref, took another mammogram to be certain it was in the right place and that was it. A bit sore and bruised after but totally manageable.

I got a call today from consultant to say it was benign and doesn't need any follow up. So there are positive stories- try not to worry too much! Fingers crossed for you. Waiting is hard. I have an MRI on 21st Oct on pancreas so scared stiff about that!- Another waiting game :(

I hope all works out well for you. Take care. x

  • Hi

Thank you for replying. You feel so alone. Only hubby and my sister know..had to tell someone. Trying not to think of how to tell the kids if it IS BC. You can see I'm galloping down the road of scenarios. Which is worse making mental lists just incase? Or not in the hope you wont have to? Moved things around in 2 bedrooms yesterday just to keep me busy. If it's a 3 week wait this will be the tidiest house in the countyFell apart half way through tea...no apparent reason..wasnt thinking about it at the time.

Lost my dad in July...this really easnt needed on top of all that.

    Xxxx

  • Hello ladies,

Just wanted to pop back on and thank you so much for your support... I've had my mammogram and sonogram and lump has been confirmed as a deep tissue bruising with fatty necrosis! ( a bad bruise which the gp ruled out!)

Still the consultant and staff were lovely and it was all done and dusted in half an hour!  The consultant explained a deep tissue bruise in the breast will cause this but so can a type of cancer so it was important to be checked so I definitely did the right thing and to view it as a positive as now I have clear mammogram on file for future reference lol  if lump hasn't started to 'fade' in 6 - 8 weeks I can call back to have it checked again if needed but he is very confident it will be going by then, the relief is enormous! All caused by a bang on the boob I can't remember!!!

I asked about the bumps up undery arm and it was likely high levels of stress has my glands swelling slightly and as I went looking I found them... These are also back to normal

Sending love and hugs to you all xx if its OK with you I will keep an eye on here to see how you are getting on xx

  • Thanks whatsnext, I would like to know how your all getting on I guess they will be monitoring you over the 5 years, once treatment is finished. Im assuming it will be every Yr or so, so although it seems a hell of a long time, I doubt they will discharge you until they're sure there is no more treatment needed.

Buzymomma, that's fantastic news! Great stuff! It is such a relief, we've gone through all sorts of scenarios and feelings and thoughts, it's really been a roller-coaster! Thankfully we can now get off that ride. Sadly not everyone can....... Yet. But they will, I'm sure of it xxxxx

  • Traciej and buzymamma sp pleased for you both!! What wonderful news ️ Whatnext glad you got some sleep big cuddles for your tears! always let them flow warrior! I'm with you on the f**k it day!! So f**k it if you or don't get things done today is your day to choose to do what you want and enjoy it as much as you can ️I went doing my shopping n I also thought f**k it to doing a big shop to many people and head was all over to think about what we will be eating this week so just got a few bits for Christmas (pjs and gift sets) and stuff to cook for our bonfire night tonight and I'll go do the big shop when I do myself a list as think that will help me. It must of been a shock like you say about the 5 years with them but let's see it as you are going to be supported and treated and will get through this not alone!! Xxx

  • hi lisa. I have phoned the doctors but was just told i would need to phone the breast clinic. which i have done about 20 times over the last few months and got nowhere. hopefully now its going to the health minister i might actually get an appointment!

  • I really hope so but please ring back your Gp and tell them again they have a duty of care to you also maybe speak to a nurse on here as they maybe able to help this is unacceptable and you must be going out of your mind!  Always here if you need a chat hun this is such a rollercoaster of emotions and I'm honestly thankful I've come on here as not told anyone apart from bf so at least I can speak to people going through the same and feel not alone in this anxious time xx

  • Hello lovely, I am off to see consultant about my "plan" this evening. Surgery is a definite, however I am awaiting an MRI result, lymph nodes biopsy (I had a micro bubble scan and biopsy last Thursday. I am absolutely terrified  I know it's a 5cm tumour grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma with lobular pattern. But what lies ahead I have no idea x

  • Hi all so I went today to appointment and I was told I have two lumps plus a lymph they all look really bad apparently. The doctor basically said he is 99% sure it's cancer. I'm really scared ladies xxx

  • oh tasha i hope their wrong. have they said what other tests their going to do next?

Reply Children
  • I've had all my biopsy's and mammogram and all sorts. I'm honestly just I'm a bubble atm.

There having a meeting next Monday to discuss treatment plans then I will find out more xx

  • its good that they managed to do all that today for you. i was told that when i have my appointment i wouldnt have a mammogram because of my age. did they say when your biopsies will be back? hopefully things will move fast now and you can know more next week. im the type that needs to know exactly whats going on down to the smallest detail x

  • Well that's what they said to me i am 33 but for some reason he really wanted to do the mammogram after the ultrasound/ biopsy's so I'm not sure if that's a good or  at sign,

I have so many questions I didn't ask because I was just in a bubble of disbelief. I'm so scared for my two children one is only eight we others 12 but suffers with autism. I'm honestly petrified right now xxx

  • it was probably better for them to do the mammogram as well. they have different pictures from different imaging then. i have 2 children as well. 3yr old with suspected autism and 5yr old who is completely hyper. im 32. i just feel like they seem to push us to the back because of our age. im so annoyed with it. At least you know a bit of whats happening in your body now and it can be dealt with. im sure its going to take you a while for it to sink in though x

  • I know tbh I felt like that a bit. But I kept calling people to get sooner appointments. And glad I did now to.

but my first appointment was just a breast exam then referred for ultrasound which they did everything else at.

How are u feeling? Try not to stress to much we can't all be unlucky like me xxxx

  • they say 1 in 10 people that go in for tests i think. it just annoys me really. 9 months waiting for an appointment. so ridiculous. hopefully now the health minister is involved i will actually get somewhere though
