Day one - found lump, referred to breast clinic

This morning has been a roller coaster. Couple of days ago I found a lump.... was it real  ? Maybe not...maybe it wont be there tomorrow ( monday) crack on..keep your mind occupied..dont think about it. Monday...still there.... and now looking in the mirror theres a crease in the skin...ish... This isnt going to go away is it...  Tuesday...... right Stop being a coward..it might not be the big C.... but do you honestly think a) it's going to go away on it's own? b) you can carry on knowing it's there? ...

Wednesday: 9am emailed the surgery on their askmygp app.

Typed in " I've found a lump in my breast " ..cue tears...

Couple of hours pass while I try and concentrate on nothing much.

Call from clinician at the surgery..lots of questions about where it is, how big it is, does it move, is it attached, any redness, any discharge.

Referred to breast clinic. Usually two weeks but because of COVID...they are a bit behind ..could be 3 weeks.... . Be prepared they will probably do an ultra sound scan and a biopsy there and then.

Im not concerned about what they do ...liar... but the

.sooner the better. I just need to know what this is!! And hope it isnt what I think it is. No family history of BC..... everything crossed.

  • Hi,

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago! When I went to clinic (last Wednesday) I had mammogram and ultrasound. Radiographer was not worried about the lump/ swelling that has sent me there but said he felt something else. So he decided to do a biopsy there and then. It was nowhere near as bad as I would have expected. Practically painless. He put in a tiny marker for future ref, took another mammogram to be certain it was in the right place and that was it. A bit sore and bruised after but totally manageable.

I got a call today from consultant to say it was benign and doesn't need any follow up. So there are positive stories- try not to worry too much! Fingers crossed for you. Waiting is hard. I have an MRI on 21st Oct on pancreas so scared stiff about that!- Another waiting game :(

I hope all works out well for you. Take care. x

  • Hi

Thank you for replying. You feel so alone. Only hubby and my sister know..had to tell someone. Trying not to think of how to tell the kids if it IS BC. You can see I'm galloping down the road of scenarios. Which is worse making mental lists just incase? Or not in the hope you wont have to? Moved things around in 2 bedrooms yesterday just to keep me busy. If it's a 3 week wait this will be the tidiest house in the countyFell apart half way through tea...no apparent reason..wasnt thinking about it at the time.

Lost my dad in July...this really easnt needed on top of all that.

    Xxxx

  • The help is there Traciej. I just needed the courage to ask for it

  • Good morning everyone, I've been following this thread closely and feel every ounce of anxiety you are all experiencing. I found a large lump in my right breast about a month ago, saw a GP, referred to one stop breast clinic very quickly, had mammogram, ultra sound, biopsies then back to see consultant who is absolutely wonderful. She said she thought it looked very much like cancer and results would be end of the week. Husband and I went for results and indeed it was cancer. A grade 3. Invasive ducal carcinoma with lobular pattern. I have since had micro bubble biopsy and an having MRI this evening. Luckily my husband has private health insurance with his job and I am included. I'm not knocking the NHS at all they are amazing but with this  cover I can attend a cancer treatment centre without the risk of being put back due to the virus. I also have a really awful arthritic hip which was about to be replaced but obviously that's on the back burner. Love to all of you ladies out there in your full battle dress you are amazing x x x

  • Hi ginger girl,

Thankyou for your comment, it's reassuring when we sort of know what to expect. That's the worse part not knowing. I've no clue what will happen later, I'm assuming it will be a check, mammagram and perhaps a biopsy no matter what they think it is. I'm assuming they will want to test for definite results.

Good luck for later also, please by all means keep us updated, we welcome your experience. Most of us are still awaiting first clinic appointment so completely in the dark

  • Hey Traciej just realised we both have evening appointments tonight, positive vibes and good luck. I must say I felt better knowing I was on the treadmill and something was being done about it. Dreading the MRI as you have to lie on your tummy and my hip hurts so much to lie like that. Needs must we will get there  x x x

  • We got this!

I'm feeling a bit sick now. Heading out in 20 mins! Catch you all later!

    #allinthistogether xx

  • I'm just back from MRI, face down but not  too bad. Half way through scan dye injected into cannula at back of my hand, no music working on earphones so had the full clanking and crashing noise of the MRI. Lovely lovely people, so kind when I explained I'm not good at climbing on tables due to hip problem. Another tick to the treatment treadmill list. Next appointment for all the results and the plan for the surgery etc on Friday. Come on Traciej I want to hear some positive stuff

  • All done. Its a cyst! Went for mammagram, ultrasound, drained it and took 3 samples of the edging, not usual apparently. Consultant confident it's a cyst and ringing with results end of the week he said he's just being overly cautious. Such a relief!

  • Crack open a bottle lovely x x x x

  • I would but I've got work in the morning, if I'm up to it. Will definitely the weekend though xxx

  • Hello,

Hope no one minds me jumping on the thread x

I've been following a couple for a while and this seems most relevant to me x

I found a lump in my left breast and have my urgent breast clinic appointment on Thursday and tbh I'm bricking it.... Only Dr and very close family know..

My gp is fab but spent so long telling me how many treatments are available nowadays for breast cancer she has totally psyched me out!

My hubby is amazing but I haven't told him about the lumps under my arm or the burning sensations in my boob either - he worries so much already I'm trying to keep it calm and low key til I see Dr's on Thursday.. Any advise??

  • Hi girls. i have been keeping an eye on this thread. im.sprry for some of your diagnosis and im glad that others have had good news.

im so annoyed today.  im sorry. my story is a long one!!

i am 32.  i found a lump in my left breast in january. by end of february i noticed a very light indentation under my breast. went  and saw a nurse in march. she felt the lump. saw the dimple. then checked my right breast and found a lump in that one as well which i hadnt felt. referal made to breast clinic. week later lockdown. week later i had a phone call from breast clinic. they weren't worried about the lumps. told me i would get an appointment 'when all this was over' and give me a number to ring if there were any changes. By end of april i could feel the lump in my right breast. i phoned the number end of june and told them i could now feel that lump and was also pretty sure the lump in my left breast has grown.... someone will ring you back.... noone rang. phoned several times in july but no answer.  end of july i rang again. another dimple has shown up in left breast and i think i can feel a 2nd lump in the right.... someone will get back to me..noone gotback to me... august another lump in the left breast... so now i have 2 lumps in the left with 2 dimples.... 2 lumps in the right..... phoned several times in august and september but no answer. managed to get through to someone else beginning of october to be told the original person who had been dealing with me had now left and thats why i couldnt get through to her. new number to ring. left voicemail 3 weeks ago. someone phoned me back 2 weeks ago. she sent an email to consultant. consultant will ring me the next day.... no call. today i managed to get hold of them again to be told that unfortunately due to everything happening they cant tell me when i will finally be seen...... i was referred 7 months ago. i am absolutely livid. i have looked into private but it will cost me £430 just for an ultrasound and to see a consultant. thats without any biopsies that need doing. i am so annoyed its unreal. and i just dont know what to do anymore

  • Hello Bethan98

I just read your post and wanted to suggest that you get in touch with the hospital PALS department and also speak to your GP as well tomorrow to inform them of what's been happening.

Whilst the large majority of women who attend breast clinic aren't diganosed with breast cancer it is important that this lump(s) are checked.

I do hope that you get some clear information soon.

    Best wishes,
