Day one - found lump, referred to breast clinic

This morning has been a roller coaster. Couple of days ago I found a lump.... was it real  ? Maybe not...maybe it wont be there tomorrow ( monday) crack on..keep your mind occupied..dont think about it. Monday...still there.... and now looking in the mirror theres a crease in the skin...ish... This isnt going to go away is it...  Tuesday...... right Stop being a coward..it might not be the big C.... but do you honestly think a) it's going to go away on it's own? b) you can carry on knowing it's there? ...

Wednesday: 9am emailed the surgery on their askmygp app.

Typed in " I've found a lump in my breast " ..cue tears...

Couple of hours pass while I try and concentrate on nothing much.

Call from clinician at the surgery..lots of questions about where it is, how big it is, does it move, is it attached, any redness, any discharge.

Referred to breast clinic. Usually two weeks but because of COVID...they are a bit behind ..could be 3 weeks.... . Be prepared they will probably do an ultra sound scan and a biopsy there and then.

Im not concerned about what they do ...liar... but the

.sooner the better. I just need to know what this is!! And hope it isnt what I think it is. No family history of BC..... everything crossed.

  • Hi,

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago! When I went to clinic (last Wednesday) I had mammogram and ultrasound. Radiographer was not worried about the lump/ swelling that has sent me there but said he felt something else. So he decided to do a biopsy there and then. It was nowhere near as bad as I would have expected. Practically painless. He put in a tiny marker for future ref, took another mammogram to be certain it was in the right place and that was it. A bit sore and bruised after but totally manageable.

I got a call today from consultant to say it was benign and doesn't need any follow up. So there are positive stories- try not to worry too much! Fingers crossed for you. Waiting is hard. I have an MRI on 21st Oct on pancreas so scared stiff about that!- Another waiting game :(

I hope all works out well for you. Take care. x

  • Hi

Thank you for replying. You feel so alone. Only hubby and my sister know..had to tell someone. Trying not to think of how to tell the kids if it IS BC. You can see I'm galloping down the road of scenarios. Which is worse making mental lists just incase? Or not in the hope you wont have to? Moved things around in 2 bedrooms yesterday just to keep me busy. If it's a 3 week wait this will be the tidiest house in the countyFell apart half way through tea...no apparent reason..wasnt thinking about it at the time.

Lost my dad in July...this really easnt needed on top of all that.

    Xxxx

  • Hi what's next,

OK, so you've got some sort of clue then. Good news about the lymph nodes!   Where is the lump? Mine is just above the aurola (if that's how you spell it)

You never know, results may be benign!

    Hi plantmad,

Your welcome to join in the chat, your most welcome!

  • Hi

It's on the outside of my right boob about halfway up. Only noticed it initially when the inside of my right arm caught it.

  • Hi,

hope it's ok to jump on

I found a lump in my breast a couple of months ago.  GP said nothing to worry about.

few months later still here and breast is sore, burning feeling.   Insisted on referral and appointment in a week.

under my arm Is tender, and may feel swollen (can't tell if it is or if that's my Mind playing tricks) and neck is kinda aching today.

could all be totally unrelated but I'm going to drive myself crazy.  I know I can't do anything until the appointment but anxiety through the roof.

    anyone had similar symptoms?

    thanks

  • Hi anxiously

    Welcome to the chat.

We've all got different symptoms it seems.

But well done you for insisting on a referral. Keep us in the loop, we're all at different stages too.

  • How's everyone feeling today?

My lump has started to feel quite tender to touch now. I initially thought it was my seat belt aggravating it as I'm in and out the car all day. I hope I get my appointment very soon or I shall be back on the phone! Mind you, it's not helping that I'm due my period in a week or so and lately my breasts become quite tender anyway. Oh the Joya of being a woman! Might crack open a bottle of wine and say *** it all!

  • Not too bad a day. Bit frustrating I cant get stuck into the covid clear out or do some gardening. Still sore from the biopsy...bruise still coming out.Not allowed to lift anything too heavy at the mo.  Only hurts if I forget its there when I reach for something.

ASDA delivery tomorrow!! Woohoooo. Living life on the edge.

  • Hey,

I hope you don't mind me joining in on your post.

I have been reading all of your posts WhatNext from your first one and I just wanted to say that I am sending you my warmest wishes.

I have my clinic appointment on Wednesday afternoon, for the past few days I haven't really been worried too much but now that it is approaching I feel myself worrying abit more! I am only 27years old and a mum of 2 young children, so it has been a rollercoaster already!

I just thought maybe speaking to people that are going through very similar things to me that it mighy have helped!

    Best wishes,

    Dee

    Hi HateNot Knowing,

A very warm welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear the reason you've joined us. It is always a worrying time when you are waiting for a diagnosis. I am glad to hear that your appointment  is for Wednesday afternoon, so not too long to wait now.

We all find that our emotions are all over the place at this stage, as there are so many unknowns. You will find the staff at the hospital very helpful and understanding. They will run a few simple tests, such as ultrasound and possibly a biopsy to test for cancer. It normally takes 1-2 weeks for the biopsy results to come back, so you may have more waiting still.

Cancer is more prevalent in older women, although it does occasionally target younger people too. It is a fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic will be diagnosed with cancer. There are a number of other reasons for breast lumps.

As soon as we know that there is the slightest possibility of a cancer diagnosis, our minds go to our children. Even if the worst should happen, treatments have advanced significantly in the past few years. My Mum had breast cancer 21 years before I was diagnosed and, there was just no comparison between the diagnosis, treatment and after care which we both recieved. I have had 2 bouts in the past 11 years and am still living a busy life.

I sincerely hope that  nothing untoward is found .
Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi everyone,

Jumping on the forum as I also am waiting for results.

I hope everyone gets their results quickly as the waiting is agonising.

I found a lump 6 weeks ago under my armpit/side boob, had ultrasound and biopsies last Wednesday, this revealed 2 cysts at the front of my boob but they were undetermined about the lump. Since my biopsy the lump is harder and more painful.

My hospital letter said that the lump is a U3 lesion, does anyone know what that means? I get the results next Wednesday and I am constantly feeling sick with worry.

    Sam xx

  • Hi Sam,

I am sorry to hear you are worrying, I understand this as I am going this worry myself. Today is my first appointment at the clinic and I am suddenly feeling really anxious about it, not sure why!

I am sorry I don't know anything about that so I can't offer anything but I am thinking of you and I hope you have good news come back next week!

  • Hi

Did you ask them what a U3 lesion is? Ring them Dd39 .everyones lumps and bumps arent the same.

Let us know what they say

  • Hi Traciej.

That's good news. At least you'll get some answers hopefully.  I was hoping to get a few days of bot havingvto think about it. A call yesterday to book a covid test 3 days before surgery....... two more calls today. Great support network falling into place. Bit it would be nice just to have a couple of days for me.....so I can get my head in the right place. Anxiety level is ok one minute and nudging the stratosphere the next. How I'm going to be Sunday and Monday (8th&9th) is anyones guess. I might ask if theres something They can give me ti calm the old nerves

  • Hi whatsnext,

Yes I'm relieved somewhat. Least I now know when I'm going. Was beginning to think I'd been forgotten

I know what you mean, it would of been nice for you to have some 'me' time, lord knows you need it but I guess where this is concerned they're not going to hang around. Not long to go though now for you

  • Had a call this morning from the breast cancer councillor

Lovely lady.  Has suggested yoga breathing exercises. " safe space" imagine being in a happy place....picture it...colour of the sky etc etc. Going to start practising today  . She also suggested that my doctor might be able to prescribe something to help with my stratospheric anxiety levels. Waiting for prescription as I type. Short term hit as it can be addictive. I'll take anything at the mo just so I can relax.

Finding myself watching old episodes of The Bill until the early hours just so I am so knackered I go to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. Otherwise the little grey cells go into overdrive...and I start thinking about our children and grandchildren that we havent seen since last December.

Trying to keep occupied.  Bedroom now looks like a bomb site.got a heap of underwired  bras that will probably go to a charity overseas.

Just found some more of dads things....cue more tears.......

    Hells Teeth!!

  • Hi whatsnext,

Anything that will relax you is definitely worth a try, keeping yourself busy is always good too, but you also need to try and relax. I'm starting to get anxious about my appointment now

    #allinittogether xxx

  • Aw that sounds good advice but it must be so hard to make your mind focus on anything else! Friends is my go to programme watched all the episodes so many times just helps my mind relax x
