Day one - found lump, referred to breast clinic

This morning has been a roller coaster. Couple of days ago I found a lump.... was it real  ? Maybe not...maybe it wont be there tomorrow ( monday) crack on..keep your mind occupied..dont think about it. Monday...still there.... and now looking in the mirror theres a crease in the skin...ish... This isnt going to go away is it...  Tuesday...... right Stop being a coward..it might not be the big C.... but do you honestly think a) it's going to go away on it's own? b) you can carry on knowing it's there? ...

Wednesday: 9am emailed the surgery on their askmygp app.

Typed in " I've found a lump in my breast " ..cue tears...

Couple of hours pass while I try and concentrate on nothing much.

Call from clinician at the surgery..lots of questions about where it is, how big it is, does it move, is it attached, any redness, any discharge.

Referred to breast clinic. Usually two weeks but because of COVID...they are a bit behind ..could be 3 weeks.... . Be prepared they will probably do an ultra sound scan and a biopsy there and then.

Im not concerned about what they do ...liar... but the

.sooner the better. I just need to know what this is!! And hope it isnt what I think it is. No family history of BC..... everything crossed.

  • Hi,

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago! When I went to clinic (last Wednesday) I had mammogram and ultrasound. Radiographer was not worried about the lump/ swelling that has sent me there but said he felt something else. So he decided to do a biopsy there and then. It was nowhere near as bad as I would have expected. Practically painless. He put in a tiny marker for future ref, took another mammogram to be certain it was in the right place and that was it. A bit sore and bruised after but totally manageable.

I got a call today from consultant to say it was benign and doesn't need any follow up. So there are positive stories- try not to worry too much! Fingers crossed for you. Waiting is hard. I have an MRI on 21st Oct on pancreas so scared stiff about that!- Another waiting game :(

I hope all works out well for you. Take care. x

  • Hi

Thank you for replying. You feel so alone. Only hubby and my sister know..had to tell someone. Trying not to think of how to tell the kids if it IS BC. You can see I'm galloping down the road of scenarios. Which is worse making mental lists just incase? Or not in the hope you wont have to? Moved things around in 2 bedrooms yesterday just to keep me busy. If it's a 3 week wait this will be the tidiest house in the countyFell apart half way through tea...no apparent reason..wasnt thinking about it at the time.

Lost my dad in July...this really easnt needed on top of all that.

    Xxxx

  • Today we have tears

    Today I am scared

Today is six days until my first appt

    Today I feel lost

    Tomorrow will be better   ......

  • Hi what next,

I'm in the same boat as you. Found a lump on Saturday. Tried to get a doctors appointment on Monday ha! That was a laugh! Finally got to see doctor yesterday. She's referring me to the clinic, says upto 2 weeks. I'm staying positive at the moment, keeping busy. Not told anyone except my mom and a woman from work who has gone through breast cancer. Don't want to tell the kids until I have something to say to them. They will go to pieces! I'm single so don't have anyone at home with me, but I'm staying strong. How long that will last who knows! Xxxx

  • Hi

i just wanted to reply in here as I found a lump the other month in my left breast and just hoped it would go away...on Saturday I showed my husband and he said need to get it checked out so I phoned the gp Tuesday and she said suspected cancer and given my age 37 would refer to breast clinic so I was in shock as I just thought she would say it's nothing. I got a call same day from breast clinic for appointment Thursday in that time me and my husband have gone through every emotion and imagined the worst case scenario. Anyway I had my appointment today and as soon as the consultant felt it he muttered something about a cyst and said he didn't thing anything sinister. I had a scan which confirmed a cyst which was possibly collapsing as was a very strange shape and then saw the consultant again who handed me a leaflet about cysts. I've never been so happy to have a cyst! So what I'm trying to say is I know it's impossible but please try not to worry and I hope everything is ok x

  • Hi sally21

Oh I'm so pleased your OK! What wonderful news! It certainly put life into perspective doesn't it? I'm keeping positive but I'm also not being nieve, I just refuse to worry about something I can't do anything about right now.  All I can do is carry on and wait for the appointment xx

  • Hi Traciej

I didnt get see a doc face to face.  Our surgery is running the " askmygp" system. So emailed in the symptoms, was contacted by phone by the nurse clinician.  Took the details and referred me there and then.  It's like a roller coaster. First few days are hell.... then you seem to accept where you are with it. Was under the weather thursday/ friday...now literally trying to get the motivation to do something instead of worrying about what's going to happen at the appt on wednesday....and the fact I have to attend alone .

The worst part is not knowing who why what or when...we have no family history...could be a bonus...hopefully. appt is weds....

Hope you get your appt comes through soon. We're all in the same boat. Keep your chin up. Theres always someone on here if you need to let it out. Xxxx

  • Hi Sally

You must be so relieved. Really pleased you've had a positive outcome. Hoping whom ever I see weds mumbles something that sounds like  cyst .

    Stay safe xxx

  • Hi Whatnext. This sounds like a nerve wracking situation to be in, waiting for so long must be making you so frustrated! I know "thoughts and prayers" often sounds like an empty comment but I'll keep you in my thoughts. Hopefully, Wednesday brings you positive news and you can resume normal life with your family <3

I actually noticed a large lump yesterday and am debating on whether to pay my gp a visit. Here's to hoping I can muster up the courage soon x

  • Hi all,

I had my appointment letter come through yesterday. Needed to book online. Went to do it only to be told no appointments left! Gave me an option to leave note for clinic with availability. If I've not heard from them by tues to ring up.

My lump, I'm sure, is shrinking! Doesn't feel so hard or tender in my breast around the lump atm. I'm still going to appointment just to make sure.

My thoughts with you all darlings! This is a very frightening time for all of us! Xxx

  • Thank you....thoughts and prayers dont sound hollow to me at the mo.

Tomorrow is first appointment. Feel as sick as a dog. Trying to keep my thoughts as positive as possible...which is hard. Not mentioning either C word, not tempting fate that's for sure. If I sleep tonight it will  be a miracle. If I do it will  be cat napping and up at stupid o'clock. Weather forecast looks shocking, so will get soaked too.

Am I making promises to the big guy? Oh yes.... I dont ask for much God.... but........this time please .

Summon up.that courage Abundantcuriosity. Make that call

    Xx

  • So have they sent you for scans/tests etc whatnext?

I rang clinic myself today as I'd not heard anything. They said they've received my referral, they have until the 31st to send an appointment. The consultant has seen referral and decided needed face to face appointment - no *** sherlock! Xxx

  • Hi Traciej

Saw the consultant..she examined me. Marked me with a felt tip pen. Back to wait in reception... then a mammogram.....back to reception. Then a scan and a biopsy...took 3 bits for analysis. Then straight back into the consultant and a breast care nurse.  Consultant said straight away it wasnt a cyst....but couldnt confirm anything until the results came back. So I said.. what if it cones back benign? Her reply? Then I'll request another biopsy.  Now to me that says it all. So I said... if it is what you think it is but cant confirm...what's the course of action? She will operate within 2 weeks.

I have an appointment next Tuesday afternoon to get the results. They suggested if my hubby wants to be with me he can.

So it is a solid lump.... it is of concern to the consultant... so getting confirmation looks like a formality.

I'm going next Tuesday with my mind set on the next step.

I'm jotting down questions to take with me as they come to mind.  How long has it been there? What stage is it at? Is it anywhere else?

The staff were absolutely amazing. The consultant is lovely. They said I did the best thing finding it and acting on it and now they will take care of me.

I have no idea what's going to happen next, but concerned Im handling it this well to be honest. Biggest coward going me...but managed this morning with the help of a great team.

  • Oh no. Well stay positive! Your in the very best hands. 1 in 10 get cancer and the success rate is high, is it a big lump? A lot of people say once they've found out they actually are much calmer as they know what they're dealing with. It's the unknown that scare us most.

Were here is you need us xxxx

  • Thanks

I had a sneaking suspicion I'd end up  being the 1 out of 10.

No idea how big, or how long it's been there.  Yes fear of the fear isnt good.

Dont you just hate it though when you bend over backwards being nice to other people and helping where you can...and then  this rocks up.

Not a death sentence my sister says. Got to get my head out of my bum on that one.

    Thanks for being here xxxx

  • Oh I know exactly what you mean! Im sick of being the nice girl all the time. Some people sail through life and others have to fight their way through it, one battle after another.

It certainly isn't a death sentence! Try not to think too much until you get the results. Only then will you know what your facing.

Were all on the same journey, why not have company along the way xxx

  • So sorry to hear this. I was thinking of you today and thought I would pop on to see how you got on. It sounds like you have done the exact right thing getting it checked out as soon as you found it and hopefully it is in the early stages and you will get the right treatment xx

  • Thanks Sally21

Just worrying not knowing how long the damn things been there.

Well the team certainly arent hanging about.

Thank you for your support. Means a lot xxxx

  • Your company is more than welcome.

    Thank you xxxx
