Referral to breast clinic

Hi everyone,

So I've had a lump in my right breast for a few months but not 100% sure. My boobs are generally quite lumpy but small. The lump is very firm but slightly moveable between my finger and thumb. I had a telephone consultation with my GP and have been referred to the breast clinic without seeing her first.

I keep swinging between convincing myself I have breast cancer to absolutely wasting a valuable NHS slot.

I'm sorry, I know I haven't actually asked anything, I just haven't told anyone and needed to get it out of my system and see if anyone else is in a similar situation.

  • Hi,

I have my 2nd referral for the breast clinic next week.

My 1st one was November 2018, I had a bloody discharge from one nipple. Had a mammogram, ultrasound and a chat with the consultant, who didn't seem concerned but took some of the discharge to be on the safe side. So you will pretty much had an idea if they are concerned.

He phoned a couple of weeks later and asked to see me again and advised I had a total duct ecusion. Had op in early Feb and was told all good.

The same nipple has started bleeding again so my doctor made an urgent referral for me again.

You know, its totally normal to be scared and anxious but thankfully most incidents are serious. I'm grateful that the wait is only 2 weeks and remind myself I know more soon. The unknown is a difficult place to be. However do try and distract yourself, worrying only steals the joy of the moment and makes know difference to the outcome.

I wish you well and be kind to yourself.

Are you allow to take someone with you?

    My hospital aren't allowing it.

  • Hi kso08

Thank you for your reply. My hospital are not allowing anyone with you unless absolutely necessary, to be honest I don't really want anybody to know I'm going, not even my husband, as I don't want to worry anybody.

My appointment is on the 5th of October, when is yours? I do hope you get good results, it is such a scary time.

    Xx

  • Hi BellaBall,

Mines on 2nd, I went alone last time so I'm not concerned about going alone this time. I was told they have a really good system and the clinic runs on time so not much waiting around.

I understand, you not wanting to tell anyone. Ive only told my husband and my boss as I'll need the time off.

However is there anyone you could speak too? Just to share how your feeling? I only told family last time  because I had to have an operation.

My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer 3 years ago so I definitely didn't want to scare the rest of the family unnecessarily.

    Xx

  • Hi again, I'm so sorry, I didn't see your reply.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband, I hope he is doing well. It is a very unsettling time and I hope all goes well on the 2nd for you. Please let me know how you get on.  I'll be thinking of you x
