Cannot diagnose type of cancer

Hi all,

I was admitted to hospital in late August with pain in one of my kidneys. A CT scan showed enlarged lymph nodes and investigations for cancer commenced. I had a Contrast CT scan and was told it appeared to be lymphoma. That same day I had a fine needle biopsy. The Contrast CT scan also showed thickening of the ureteral wall on one side. As far as I'm aware, no tumour etc... is shown.

The result was that it was not Lymphoma, but that it was another type of cancer.

A further blood test showed very worrying results for my kidney function and I was admitted last week for surgery to help my kidneys drain. During this period I was told the cancer appeared to be a germ cell tumour. An ultrasound showed no tumour in my testicles, which caused some confusion. After being discharged I had a PET/CT scan and the results should be available early next week.

I've  just been told that the cancer is not germ cell, and further tests are continuing.

I had accepted germ cell as a curable type of cancer. I'd  also accepted lymphoma, as I experienced an autoimmune disease for several years, but now I'm at a loss. Has anyone else out there a similar experience and if so, what was the outcome? I'm  told it's  definitely cancer, but could it be an infection such as sarcoidosis?

Thanks
