2 week referral for colorectal cancer

I am absolutely beside myself with worry, I went to the doctor because I had been having a itchy bottom and two small what feel like papercuts, and sting when I poo. She examined me and asked if I had pipes that day because she could feel a lump which she said could be poop or a pile or a mass :/( she did say that because I had no other symptoms that she's was sure it's not the mass but had to refer me anyway, she also did bloods which have come back normal but I have just received a letter saying that you doctor has referred you for suspected colorectal cancel and that I have to have a flexible sigmoidoscopy on Monday, and a FIT test so now I am so worried I have this ? I am only 44

  • Hi I like you am terrified also I'd had bowel cancer symptoms went to the doctor who referred me for a colonoscopy while the surgeon did it he said he didn't find anything other than diverticula but took biopsies it's been two weeks today and I got a letter to go for a ct scan yesterday I'm beside myself

  • Hi, I have been having terrible stomach pains everyday for last 3 months and have had an ultrasound and bloods done a few time's, I'm now going to the toilet and it's black blood when I open my bowels, I'm now on the urgent 2 week referral, I'm so scared. I'm 35, praying for you both xx

  • I pray for us all too but think mine is definitely cancer or why do the ct scan I'm 43 it's a constant worry isn't it you can't escape it

  • Hi guys

Just read your posts and I am in a similar situation, I get constapated quite a lot and a few weeks ago there was a lot of blood but no Pain, so I bought a private test and it came back with a positive result with a score of 124ug which I have no idea what this is out of.  I am really worried and have mad ea private appointment and I am going for a colonoscopy.  I get some stomach cramps that last for like two mins now and again.  I'm freaking out now as been online and all I see is bowel cancer.

Can someone please put my mind at ease and tell me of this means what it is.

  • Btw I'm 40 and yes overweight but I'm in tatters...

  • Wow, just read all your posts everyone.

I really feel all of your worries.

The sick feeling a couple of seconds after you wake in the morning and remember.

The waiting for appointments, tests and results.

I've had bowel cancer. As far as I know, now i'm ok.

Lots of symptoms for bowel cancer, all of which could be something else less serious.

I've been there, I really feel your pain at the moment.

Colonoscopies find bowel cancer and in my experience they tell you on the day of the procedure if they find it.

Please let us know how you all get on, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you all xx

  • Hey all, im not suffering myself however my dad is goung through this quite recently and its been a rollerciaster of emotions tests op and more.

ineedabreak is right there are so so many things the symptons may and may not be, my dad didnt really mention blood in his stools though this was picked up on but it was his FIT test that raised initial alarm bells orior to not being able to eat and when he did being in awful agony on his knees through being blocked, he was more tired than normal but they were pretty much his symptons.
once he had his colonoscopy the man there pulled him into a room and basically said i cant get the camera through so i dont know the size but it must be big and ive seen enough cancer to know its cancer, so he was pretty much told straight away.

i pray all your results are fine and will be thinking if u all xxxx

  • Thankyou X I hope your dad is ok xxx

  • No worries, im still picking this up as we go, every day im learning something new it actually helps me care for him better and myself by really trying to understand every step snd hurdle.

always here if you need to talk xxx

  • Hi thanks for your replies I had my flexible sigmoidoscopy yesterday and thankful it was all clear, I had a enema first and then the flexi and it wasn't as bad as I thought, it was uncomfortable and I did have gas and air but after they showed me what they found which was diverticular small pouches in my colon which a lot of people do get with age and are normal u just have to Put more fibre diet, after say 10mins I was sat having a cup of tea feeling that relief, still have the fissures and itchy bottom but referred back to the doctor for that and snore more cream, really hope you all get a clear result x
