Complex cyst outpatient appt

I had a laparoscopy about 4 weeks ago to remove a very large complex cyst which was so tightly wrapped around my ovary that that had to be removed too. The cyst was 18cm!!

I was told the cyst would be sent off for testing and I would hear more in 4 weeks.

I received a letter yesterday booking an appointment with my gyny consultant. I had assumed that they would just tell me the test results in the letter, which has got me worried that it's likely to be bad news or mean further tests and treatment. Does anyone know if it's normal procedure to have an outpatient appointment after having a complex cyst removed? Or is it likely to mean they found something nasty?

They took my bloods a lot in hospital so I assumed they would test for CA125, but wouldn't they have told me?

It's causing me a lot of anxiety until I have the appointment. I'm 33 and we've never had cancer in the family before so I really don't know what to expect.

  • Hello Anxiouslywaiting and a warm welcome to our forum!

Poor you  - 18cm that seems to be a very large cyst! I hope that you will hear from others on the forum who have had a complex cyst removed and that they will share their experience with you and tell you more as to whether this is a standard procedure. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more and hopefully you will get some answers at your appointment. Don't hesitate to ask them any questions you may have.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
