MRI looking for liposarcoma

Hi all,

I found a lump in my neck. I had an ultrasound which confirmed there is a lump and 2 enlarged nodes (which can also be felt). The sonographer told me that it was a lipoma and off I went with a smile on my face.

I then got a call from my GP saying they needed to refer me for an MRI to investigate what the lump was because it is deep in the tissues of my neck so they dont know whether its lipoma or liposarcoma. I have waited a month for an MRI appointment, chased GP last week and got a letter yesterday for an appointment on Sunday.

Has anyone been in a similar position? Did you have ultrasound and MRI? How long will the results take - Im guessing a couple of weeks?

Anything anyone can tell me would be really helpful, good or bad. Im 90% sure its lipoma but obviously liposarcoma would be very serious so its still at the back of my mind.

  • Hello JessSimm

I'm sorry to hear that you've been asked to have some further tests on the lump in your neck. I can see from  your previous posts that you've been dealing with these concerns for quite a while now.

It's understandable that you're still feeling worried but hopefully the scan on Sunday will answer your questions.

It may be that the technicians in the department are able to tell you how long it will take for the results to come through but if not then give your GP a call at the end of the week.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer now and you'll know more about what this lump is. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
