Petrified of ovarian cancer

I have fibromyalgia and so I'm used to pain but a few weeks ago I started having horrendous pain in my coccyx.
I had some blood work done and my CA-125 came back as 70.
I've been made an emergency ultrasound appointment for the 25th.
I have what I can only describe as labour pains in my lower back and hips. And weakness and numbness/pain in my legs.
I also have quite bad rib and chest pain intermittently. The odd twinge in my tummy. It's mostly round the back. Eased slightly with heat.

I have PCOS. I am 39. I have three children.

the doc mentioned the C word last Tuesday and the wait for the scan is crippling me with anxiety.

Has anyone experienced similar. Is 70 high?!

what do I expect in the scan?

sorry for rambling. Much love to you all x

  • Hi,

I understand how scary waiting is - I'm in the middle of this process myself. My ovarian mass was found before I had the bloods - so all done a bit out of order! 0 to 35 is "normal range" for CA125 but if you do some research you'll find that the number can be raised for lots of different hormonal reasons - as well as a cancer marker. I think you'll get more answers at your scan than from just the bloods. I have my next scan on Friday as well! My mass is being removed soon but they have been unable to clarify whether it is benign or malignant from the ultrasounds and MRI. The waiting I find is awful - a lot of thinking time! Fingers crossed that if they find anything it can be treated quickly. Sorry if this isn't much reassurance or help but I just wanted you to know that someone understands your worry and anxiety.

  • Thank you so much. It is such an awful time. The waiting is unbearable.
    what was your ca125 level?
I really hope your scan goes ok and for the best outcome for you. Sending lots of love and hugs x

  • My CA125 is only 41 - but I know that the numbers are unreliable in premenopausal women and that's me. My ovarian mass is about the size of a large tissue box! It's coming out regardless of what it is.
What time is your scan on Friday? When I had my ultrasound the sonographer shared her findings with me - hopefully they'll do the same for you. I am in Bristol.

Sending positive thoughts your way. Message me anytime - I don't really sleep!

  • Oh no mine was much higher then. Eek. I just can't find any solid information on the numbers.
a large tissue box! That's big! Where do they find the room?! what are your symptoms? I'm guessing you must be in some discomfort with that. I really hope you're ok. The waiting is terrible. It will be worse for you as they have found something and unable to tell you either way. Utter nightmare. My heart goes out to you.

my scan is 11:30 on Friday. What about yours? I'm in Newcastle.

same. Message whenever you like. It's nice to have some support from someone who truly understands.

  • Hi

i was just wondering how your scan went? X

  • Hi,  I also have a slightly raised CA125 of 77 which my consultant didn't think was an issue.  I had an abdominal and pelvic ultra/tv ulstrasound at the end of August and the sonographer said all looked ok and that I would get told more at my next appointment which is tomorrow.  I'm only hoping it is good news as I have had to wait 6 weeks for the appointment.  My symptoms were slightly bloated on and off, heavy periods and a bit of spotting for 1 month.  Although this past week I have period pains and sore back so hopefully this is a little bump in the road.

I am also under gastro as I have had bad discomfort in my upper abdomen throughout this time and have been to A&E twice but they think it could be acid which I know it isn't.  I also was diagnosed with colitis 10 years ago.  I am now worried that they are going to tell me something awful tomorrow like I have a mass which is pushing up into my abdomen.  I have 2 young children who I try and shield from this but they are worried when they see me in pain.  Also my other half broke his leg at the weekend so if I need any proceedures I don't know how I will get there.

I just want answers, whatever they are.

Hope you are doing ok and your scan was ok?!

Really can't wait for tomorrow to be over.

    Take care x
