Waiting for referral to breast clinic, purple spot and lump

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone had something similar to me. I first rang my doctors about a pink/purple lump visable on the skin under my boob. My breast felt uncomfortable and heavy before then but I didn't ring until I noticed this spot. I thought most likely a boil but I started having breast pain and my breast is a little swollen on one side.

Had a phonecall app with doctor who prescribed antibiotics for mastitus. I took then 10 day course, although the lump was still visable it looked more light pink in colour. However whimst taking the antibiotics I noticed a hard lump on the top left of my breast. This lump you can only feel you can't see it. It's on the side of the swelling.

I went in to see a doctor who said that she wanted a second opinion before referring me to a breast clinic or prescribing anymore antibiotics. The doctor she wanted to speak to was with a patient and so I left and waited for her call. I have been feeling quite sick and soooo tired. Alot more than usual.

She said that I need to get it checked and so I will receive a referral.

I've tried not to worry and I'm quite calm but I can't get it off my mind.

I'm pretty sure it's an infection. Since my doctor referred me late last week the visable lump looks more aggressive. It's sore to touch now and tonight I've noticed a clear liquid coming from it. There is no head but sounds like a boil too me. I also have little spots on the area around my nipple now.

Because there is different things going on I'm just wondering if anyone has an opinion. I'm staying away from Google. Last year I was suspected to have a cancerous growth on my cervix. I tortured myself waiting. I got the growth removed and biopsy was done and it was benign thank god. But I made myself suffer. I'm just trying to ease my mind ti's time and I'm hoping asking for other people experiences will help. Thank you

  • Hello MrsJacob

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some concerns with a breast lump recently. It sounds sensible that your GP has referred you to breast clinic. Try to keep in mindthat the majority of women referred to breast clniic do not go on to be diagnosed with cancer.

You mention in your post that the lump has changed again since you saw your GP. I think that it would be a good idea to contact your GP and let them know about this. If it is an infection they will be able to look at starting some treatment rather than waiting until an appointment for breast clinic comes through.

Giving Google a wide berth really is the best idea. It won't give you answers but it will cause you to feel more anxious about things.

    I hope things improve soon.

    Best wishes,

  • I have been on two types of anti biotics but now I have a purple looking bruise under my nipple should I be worried ?

  • Hi im sorry to hear this. I have just came from my doctor's after noticing a purple colour birth mark type of mark under my breast. Im sure it was abit lighter the other day. She said it's irregular in shape but she doesn't think it's anything bad but referred me to a specialist which i should hear from in 2 weeks. Obviously i am googling and just cancer everywhere i have a son and am just so worried now searching the Internet trying my best to describe this mark. Its similar like a blood blister but not raised or anything coming out of it ect. No lumps or anything just paranoia setting in!

Please go to your gp though. And i hope you are ok. Laura

  • Hi Laura,

just wondered how you got on. I have a mark on my breast that I would describe exactly like yours. I haven't been to get checked yet but just wondered if yours turned out to be of any concern ?

hope all is good though x
