Swollen Lymph Node in neck for 6 months

I've had a swollen lymph node in my neck for at least 6 months. Last month, I went to my GP regarding it and was sent for an ultrasound scan. After the scan I was told that it was just a swollen lymph node and nothing to worry about, however, I'm not sure why it is swollen and if it will ever go down. I have taken to google to try and figure out why I have this swollen lymph node and as you can imagine all that comes up is "cancer, cancer, cancer". Since the lymph node has been swollen, I have lost quite a bit of weight and experience migraines on a daily basis. I am always extremely tired and have lots of episodes of dizziness. I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever had an experience in the past where they've had a swollen lymph node scanned and was told it wasn't anything but then later down the line found out it was cancerous?

  • Hi I'm in the same boat mine have been swollen for 10 weeks now I've had blood test done they came back fine, I've had ultrasound scan came back normal and still getting no answers.

  • Hi, I had covid for the first time nearly a year ago now, I was vaping at the time and I noticed a small pea sized lump in my left side of my kneck and it's been there ever since but I have no symptoms of anything and my lump hasn't grown, but I get worried sometimes but my mum worked on the cancer ward and she said I wouldn't worry because peopel can get long term lymph nodes from covid, or sometimes it could be grissle in your kneck. I try not to worry about it because it hasn't grown

  • My husband has had  a swollen lymph node right side of his neck for about six months now, he went to the GP had the blood tests and antibiotics as a precaution and was awaiting a ultrasound. I rang ultrasound department and they couldn't give us a date said they were very busy. So we decided to go private, we needed a referral from GP for the private ultrasound our GP was not getting on with this so we decided to book an appointment with a consultant for which you didn't need a referral. So long story short we went yesterday morning at 9.30 he did a thorough examination and a endoscopy the one up the nose. He told us there and then he thought he had a cancer at the base of his tongue. He then booked us into his NHS clinic in the afternoon at the local hospital where we were seen by him and his team which included a McMillan nurse. He now has his biopsy booked for next Wednesday and has had all his scans and tests booked for next week. So we noe start this frightening journey.

I came on here to see if I could find any information that would help us, but when I saw your post I had to reply to urge you if you can afford to go privately at least for the first consultation and they will then get you back into the NHS system. It cost us £500 yesterday the best money we have ever spent, good luck

  • Hi All,

I hope everyone is feeling better!

I've had swollen lymph nodes in my neck for 4 mths now, feeling exausted, headaches.  I've had blood and have to take iron supplements.  I've been taking them for about 6 weeks and I'm feeling less tired but lymph nodes still swollen and aching.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have posted, and I'm going to persist to get to the bottom of it.

  • Hiya

Sorry for your experience but your situation sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing at the moment did you ever find out a cause

  • Hey, did you ever get to the bottom of this. I have the exact same thing and doing my head in. Pain Also goes up under the jaw and have ear pressure.

  • Me too mate, I’m 19 and about 6 months ago I was feeling stress and tenderness in my jaw and neck, before I knew it this lymph nodes here on the right side. Due to the amount of people here all with the same issue I’m kinda relieved I just think it’s something that happens.
