I have just had a video call with my thyriod surgeon.

I have a nodule on the right side of my thyriod that was detected in June.

The biopsy, although, slighly uncomfortable, is painless. I felt a little pressure on my neck, obvioisly where the scan is moving over your throat. I cant say I felt the needle as you would expect, though, and he did it 3 times.

I bled a little while lying on the bed, thats because - as i understood it -  there is a lot of blood in the gland itself. so nothing to worry about. (you just lie on the bed with your head tilted back a little) of course the radiologist is on hand with the tissue.

I did feel a little 'under the weather' for a few days afterwards. This was because the thyriod had been 'disturbed', and found it a little difficult to lie down flat the first few nights. Not being able to sleep very well probably led to me to feeling this way. They will probably tell you to take neuofen/paracetamol and It does get easier, though. You say about your Son, if you are able to have someone on hand to help out a little, that would be a help, as lifting and moveing around may be a lttle less easy to do. This is how I found it to be. Of course - you may not feel the same,everyone is different, but I think it maybe something to thiank about.

I am awaiting an op now for a partial removal of my thyriod. Sometimes the biopsy can come back as inconclusive. Again, I undertsand because blood can be in the sample. But 95% of it being benign. Also, if it is sinister, I am assured this is one of the better places to have it as it can be dealt with quite positivly.

I, like yourself, felt very concerned. I didnt even know really, what the thyriod did!

I just wanted to share my experience with you, so far, so that you dont feel too isolated and alone.

People tell you not to worry - but practically, its not easy to do so. Things will take their  course and you just have to try and  manage each day the best you can.

Thank you for your reply I really appreciate all the tips and advice there. I feel better knowing what to expect when the appointment comes. 
 

I keep getting worked up putting of making plans as I think I'll not be here by then etc.
 

did you get the results from your own or did tho show as inconclusive so that's why the op? I hope the operation goes well for you, a lady I used to work with had her thyroid removed due to cancer and has done remarkably well. She didn't have a biopsy tho. 
 

it's been a rollercoaster as I only had a cyst monitoring lol

my results came back as abnormal 

I then had a ENT appointment at the hospital where he said I would have an appointment with a thyroid surgeon

i had a video call with him on 11th Sept but have not yet received an op date. They are still working on the 'backlog' due to Covid m, and will let me know as soon as a date becomes available. Probably around mid October now. Hope you are ok .. hiw are things going with yourself..?
