Calcifications

Hi

Does anyone have experience of breast Calcifications and what it really means?

I had a mammogram because of changes in my breast and small lump, which turned out to be a fluid filled cyst, however mammogram showed calcifications in clusters.

Back today for investigative mammogram and ended up with biopsy’s being taken as clusters of Calcifications “are a cause for concern but could be benign “

I have small breasts and it was a bit of an ordeal getting the right position, images etc ready to take the samples needed but eventually all done  and marker was also inserted.

results are due in about a week, over the phone initially due to COVID restrictions and if needed a physical appointment will be made .

I just don’t feel I know exactly what I am potentially dealing with, it could be nothing but it could be more sinister, however DCIS appears to be the most likely and is usually a very early sign and very  treatable ?

I would  appreciate if anyone else has had experience  of Calcifications could give me any personal insights please.

thanks for reading

  • I also have calcifications

mine were discovered about 20 years ago and samples taken which showed they were nothing to worry about

about 5 years ago I had samples taken again and a marker inserted which has been very helpful in my mammograms since

I know that it can be a worry thinking about DCIS but it is quite rare to have a positive diagnosis.

My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at 35 so every little thing has worried me since... she is now 62 with no reoccurrence :)

  • So then consultant just called and I need a repeat biopsy next week as the area sampled is too small, what they have is benign but they need to do again to check.

i should be pleased but don’t really feel great , feel a bit like in limbo and Groundhog Day.

Anyone else have to have repeat biopsy and how did you Feel?

i am trying to be positive for my family but inside feel mixed up.

    xx

  • How did it go? I'm now in a similar position. Biopsy on Thursday for suspicious calcifucations.

  • Hi

I had a recall on my mammogram and went last Monday to what I thought would be just another mammogram but ended up with further mammograms, ultrasound & 3 biopsies. Well in 3 areas they took several samples out of both sides. They said calcifications on the left breast was a concern but  there are also calcifications on the right and a lump (which they are not worried about as think benign but took a biopsy to be sure). I have an appointment tomorrow morning for my results and am really anxious. My sister had DCIS and double mastectomy so I think this is making me more anxious.

  • Oh good luck tomorrow - please let me know! I get my results on Thursday. My calcifucations are with a lump too - again they are not too worried about that. Just the clusters.

  • Thank you! I will let you know how I get on.

And good luck to you for Thursday xx

  • Hi, I got my results but feel none the wiser at the moment. He did say he thinks its nothing to worry about but then went on about radial scarring which was quite technical. He said I will need surgery to remove it as they can't tell from the biopsy and then it will be biopsied from the surgery. It would normally be done within 4 weeks but because of covid will probably not be. So I just wait to hear from them with a surgery date and then wait to hear from that. I think its positive news but honestly not to sure!

Let me know how you get on x

  • Yeah that doesn't sound ideal - the not knowing is do hard and yours has just been extended - I'm really sorry to hear that. I really hope that you get the op soon and answers. I guess the aren't too worried if it's a several week wait? My mind is still going round in circles but I know so many people have biopsies and the results are positive.

  • Just wanted to say good luck for tomorrow. Let me know how you get on x
