Liver enzymes

Hi!

My mum (aged 78) has recently had a blood test comeback with high liver enzymes – the GP telling her that this can be a sign of bowel cancer. I'm a little confused as can't find a lot about a link between the two.

I'm wondering if he said this as she has had weight loss and recurrent bouts of vomiting (generally after eating fatty foods), although the latter was put down to a hiatal hernia (diagnosed last year) and the former being investigated (hence blood test).
She also had both CT and endoscopy procedures during hernia investigations. Some polyps were found on bowel which came back benign.

I'm just a little confused as can't find a specific link and wonder why the GP specifically said 'bowel cancer'.
