Possible thyroid cancer

I wanted to say hello and also to ask for some advice

I visited my Dr 6 weeks ago due to ongoing problems with a hoarse voice . I have not had a cold , no temperature or mucus .
I was diagnosed 3 years ago with a multi modular goiter on my thyroid. At almost 51 I'm at a time in my life where everything hormone wise is up on the air , so new aches and pains, so so tired but not getting a decent sleep had become the norm for me .
I had been putting off a Drs visit due to Covid but as voice had worsened over a couple of Months I made an appointment . He listened to me, examined me, Sent off bloods and said he would refer me to ENT.

one week later I get an NHS text at 10.10pm saying that as I had been referred for suspected head and neck cancer I needed an ultrasound which in a few weeks would be followed by an endoscopy.

i had the ultrasound 3 weeks ago , have heard nothing . Symptoms are far worse voice now all

but disappears after a few sentences, I struggle to breath, my neck is huge , lymph nodes up in neck under armpits and behind ears hurts and I feel rotten. The most worrying part is I now have a dull ache in my upper right arm and pain in right side of neck and shoulder , it's there all the time  . So called my Drs again last week, had a  difficult chat because of voice and he said I should have been seen within 2 weeks as an urgent referral ( now 6 weeks have passed )

I am worried my husband is really worrying and feels that I need to go to A&E to try and get seen because my neck is obviously being restricted in some way

i don't like to waste anyone's time and I understand that there will be unavoidable delays due to Covid but I can't go to work as I'm unable to speak and I feel worse each day ( still no temperature and have had a clear Covid test as my husband is a teacher so all household had to have one so he could return to work.

what shall I do ? ( sorry for the very long post )

  • Hello MaisieMum

I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing health problems that you're dealing with. It's understandable that you're worried and I don't think that you're wasting anyone's time. Regardless of what is causing these issues for you they are clearly impacting on your daily life.

After you spoke to your GP last week did they say if they were going to get in touch with the hospital to chase up your appointment? I know that you've mentioned it's difficult to talk on the phone but I wonder if your husband is able to ring and speak to the department or Consultant's secretary to explain how symptoms are progressing and ask about a time frame for your appointment.

Alternatively if you feel you're not getting any answers then you could contact the hospital PALS department.

It's natural that your husband is feeling worried and I can empathise with his desire to get you seen as soon as possible.
I'd encourage you, or your husband, to get in touch with the hospital to chase your appointment in the first instance.

I hope that you have some news soon. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
