What to expect during ENT 2ww referral?

Hi all,

In my 20's and recently noticed my tonsil is a lot bigger on one side than the other. Also have a hard painless lump in my neck. I've been getting aches in my left armpit on and off for the past 6 months also. Never felt unwell, at most just very tired but I do shift work.

I had a telephone consultation a month ago said I said I felt fine but noticed these things and got put on antibiotics. They've done nothing. Went to GP again and he urgently referred me. I don't know why, but I didn't think to ask about what is actually going to happen at this appointment. Maybe the word cancer just shook me up a bit.

Anyone else had similar symptoms or been to these appointments. Just want to know what to expect! Thanks in advance

  • Hi a95,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sure it must have been unsettling to have this referral but hopefully it will mean you get some answers before too long.

There is some information on our website here about what an urgent referral means. There is also a thread on Cancer Chat here where some people share their experiences about what happened at their appointment - but it may not be the same for everyone.

If you'd like to talk anything through with one of our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
