Vaginal bleeding at 52

Been having stomach pains for months now, been back and forth to GP, admitted to A&E due to pain bouts, had an ultrasound scan a week or so ago, results show a fatty liver so more blood tests. However just over a week ago I start bleeding, mainly red blood when I wipe, needing to wear pant liners, and have had some small clots. I'm so fed up with this pain, but have been told to take paracetamols as they can't find a cause. Surely something would have come up on ultrasound scan if there's anything sinister. They are even wondering if my pain is arthritis in my hip, so having to book an X-ray. I'm so worried something bad is going off and they are missing it. It's Saturday now, so yet another weekend to worry.

  • hi there, Im 58 and had spotting about 2 months ago.  GP sent me or ultrasound and biopsy.  Lining was slightly too thick so put me on progesterone tablet to balance hormones.  Four weeks of quite heavy bleeding later and its finally stopped but there are still the odd aches and pains and im quite sore after all the "fluid" but hopefully Im getting back to some kind of normal.  Go back to your GP and be persistant.  Ive had telephone consults for the most part but my practice has been very good.  Let us know how it goes.

  • Thank you for being reassuring

I am going to ring GP on Monday.

    ill keep you updated.

    thanks again.

  • Been to see GP today, she's very concerned, she has taken bloods and has referred me for an internal scan. Says she's worried about ovarian cancer. Should have blood results in a week and a scan within 2 weeks. Kind of hit me a bit today. Trying not to worry. Fingers crossed.

  • Hi there, dont worry too much.  My thoughts were all over the place when I went to the hospital for biopsy and scan.  Turns out my endometrium decided to thicken a tiny bit hence the bleed.  Nothing else to see, so hrt here I am.  Its been a long 8 weeks and im still off work, though thats not my fault, they are being awkward.  If thats all it is with you, yipeeee.  Its a faf but its best to get it sorted than leave it.  Let us know how it goes x

  • Thanks

went for internal scan now got appointment for hysteroscopy. I'm hoping it's not too painful. . Not looking forward to it. Will keep you updated. I'm glad you have a good outcome.

  • Well hysteroscopy was quite painful, biopsy was worse . Should get results in 4-6 weeks unless it's urgent. Consultant couldn't see anything sinister so that's a relief. .
weird thing is, I've been bleeding constantly for 3 1/2 weeks, now after hysteroscopy I've almost stopped.  ‍♀️  I find that odd as I was expecting more bleeding from everything I've read and what the nurses told me. Weird????  Anyway, fingers crossed, no news is good news so far.
Hope you are doing ok? Xx
