24 and worried

Hi,

I am 24 and have been experiencing symptoms for 3 months now. It all started suddenly one morning when I woke up feeling very unwell with nausea, loose stool, ocassional cramping of stomach. I was going to the toilet 3-5 times a day and noticed a small amount of blood a couple of times.
I started to get better but then after a bbq 3 weeks ago I woke up the next morning feeling even worse than before. I now have bad fatigue, nausea in the mornings, waking up at 5-6am with bowel pain which is relieved from going to the loo. I have had a blood in my stool not in the bowl or when I wipe about 9 times in the 3 months. I also have found myself burping a lot more and my appetite is reduced. I am only going to the toilet 1-2 times a day which is normal for me and they can range from loose mush to normal. I often feel sore in my abdomen but no pain.

i have been referred to a gastro consultant but it has been 2 months and I am extremely worried as I am not getting any better.

i have had all my bloods done twice which showed no sign of anaemia and everything was normal. I have had fecal calprotectin done which was 71, not normal but not abnormal, in a mid range. No sign of infection in any stool samples either.

i have no family history of bowel cancer but I am extremely scared that I am crying everyday.

I would love if someone could share there stories and help, I am going out of my mind with worry.

  • Hi my daughter is 29 she was diagnosed with a rare condition called Familial Adenomatous Polyposis at  age 24, her symptoms were similar, she had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy which diagnosed the condition, although this is usually a hereditary disease it was not in her case, it is worth asking your GP to have you referred to have these nasty but necessary procedures done, without wanting to scare you I would suggest you do this with some urgency.  It is better to have all the information than the constant worry.  With love xx
