Breast cysts and shoulder pain

Hello,

Also what a couple of months it has been! Firstly, I found a breast lump whilst in the shower in my left breast. I called the doctors straight away. I'm breast aware as my mum ahs breast cancer a couple of years ago.

The doctor referred me straight away to the breast clinic as it was during the pandemic the GP didn't see me first.

After a very anxious 2 week wait is as seen at lightning speed at the breast clinic where the specialist said that it was normal breast tissue and due to breastfeeding lots of changes were happening. Stunned, and relieved, I went away without asking any questions.

However it still didn't feel right and I could definitely feel a lump. I went back to the GP who checked me out and said the breasts felt lumpy but nothing to worry about. I mentioned at this stage that the skin looked a little different to me over the lump but I wasn't sure if this is where I'd bruised myself from checking so much, and the bruise is over some stretch marks making it look dented? She brushed this off too.

I went away still not feeling too happy about things and ended up paying privately to see a consultant breast surgeon. He was great and explained that the tissue is changing after breastfeeding and it felt like benign changes but he would do an ultrasound to check. The ultrasound showed lots of cysts in my left breast, a few in my right.

I finally felt more comforted with this news. However over the last few weeks I've been having a nagging pain behind my shoulder blade on the left hand side. Doesn't feel like muscle pain, more like something is stuck. This is causing numbness and ache don't my arm and into my hand.

So today I've requested a telephone appointment with the GP about the shoulder pain and I wonder if it's all linked? I'm still worried. The bruise is still over the area I'd been repeatedly checking even though weeks have passed too.

Very worried. I have a 7 month old son, and I'm 30 years old.

Has anyone had a similar experience where the cysts caused shoulder pain or should I prepare myself for something more sinister?

Xx

  • Welcome to our forum, petitfilou.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing some discomfort with your shoulder and are understandably worried this might be linked to the cyst in your breast.

Although it is very reassuring that none of the doctors who saw you up to now found anything serious I think it's a good idea to have your symptoms investigated as they continue to bother you.

Hopefully, some of our members who had similar experiences will soon come by to chat with you and offer advice.

In the meantime, if you'd like to have a chat with our cancer nurses about that, feel free to give them a call on this number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday, between 9 a.m - 5 p.m.

    Wishing you the very best,

  • Hi!

I hope you are well! I know this post is from a while ago but I was wondering if you found any answer to your shoulder blade pains?

I am having similar issues to the ones you posted. I have an appointment at the breast clinic in 2 weeks but I was just curious if you had any answers.

Thanks in advance and best wishes to you xd

  • Hello, sort of! I was reassured by a few breast specialists ( I went private) that my shoulder pain wasn't linked to my breast cysts. I had a scan on my shoulder but it didn't return anything so I suspect it's a torn/damaged muscle as I have a little boy I tend to carry on that side. I saw a chiropractor and I do yoga and it helps. I also notice it more when I'm stressed or have been doing heavy lifting.

I hope your appointment goes well, and will keep you in my thoughts. ♥️
