Worried about my ovarian cyst

Hi everyone,

so here's a little background:

I have a history of endometriosis. In 2009 I underwent laporoscopy treatment and have been fitted with IUDS since that stoppped all symptoms.

over the past couple of months I have been dealing with severe abdominal pain. Both focused all over my lower abdomen and with the pain radiating from my right lower abdomen.
A couple of weeks ago my stomach suddenly ballooned and the pain was excruciating. I fainted, felt breathless and nauseous. I was advised to go straight to A&E by my GP which I did.

they gave me an ultrasound which showed a small cyst and I was sent home.
my stomach continued to be bloated and a week later I was back at the hospital.
this time they said they didn't think the cyst would cause as much pain because of size and suggested it was a flare up of my endo. They said they want to monitor the cyst as it is filled with blood (not sure what this means implication wise). They sent me home with painkillers.

i feel exhausted. Nauseous everyday, little interest in food. My urine passes in a trickle although I feel I need to go every half an hour, constant stomach pain and bloating.

I'm booked in for a further ultrasound to look at the cyst in 5 weeks.

should I be pushing to see a doctor again before this? I'm concerned that the impact day to day I'm experiencing means there's something more worrying going on.

thank you so much for reading and I appreciate any replies x

  • Hi Victoria890,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about the difficulties you're having at the moment - this certainly sounds very disruptive and unsettling. It's good that you've been getting things checked out and that you have a further appointment booked, but I understand that the symptoms you mention must be making things difficult day-to-day.

If you feel particularly worried, and/or if the symptoms themselves are debilitating, you could always give your GP a call to see what they think, or if they feel it is necessary to take any action sooner.

If you'd like to speak to our nurses at all, perhaps to get some initial advice, you can call them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

I hope you're able to find out more about this soon and that things ease for you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
