So so scared

Hi,I'm a 24 year old female. I'm absolutely terrified that I have throat/oral cancer. I've had a sore throat on and off for a while, usually for a day or two then it goes. Around a week ago I started to feel like something was stuck in my throat and its very dry,red raw and my tonsils are very swollen. I rang the doctors and had swabs which were clear, I rang 111 on Saturday because things were getting worse and they gave me some penicillin which hasn't done anything (I usually respond to antibiotics quite quick) and I've had multiple throat infections/tonsillitis over the years, none have felt like this. Now the right side of my gum at the back has all swelled up like a bubble in my mouth,I feel like someone is grabbing my throat and choking me and my dryness is getting worse,no matter how much I drink the second I stop it's back to feeling like I haven't drank in a week,I also had the same dry throat feeling a few months ago but it subsided. Also having dizzy spells and my chest is starting to feel odd. My nans brother passed from throat cancer a few years ago. I have 3 beautiful young children and a soon to be husband,I'm so scared that it's life threatening or too far gone to cure I've booked a private scan of my throat tomorrow I'm dreading it,I just know something is wrong. I'm going to ring the doctors again tomorrow to see if they will look at my throat but they arent the most helpful in the world, from past experience they usually don't take things serious because of my age. One doctor gave me the number for counselling instead! I'm just looking for some advice or reassurance I suppose. Thankyou x

  • Hello Cjb_x

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some health worries for a while now. How did you get on with your scan today? I hope that the results gave you some reassurance.
If you've still struggling with symptoms then do get back in touch with your GP and perhaps let them know about the scan results as well.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    I hope things improve soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Thankyou you replying. Scan was clear but she said there's a part of the neck that they can't see from a scan so she's putting on the report that she's advised me to be referred to ent. The doctor I spoke to today made me feel stupid for worrying too which wasn't helpful :(
