Referred To A Breast Clinic

Hi everyone I'm new here, and I'm also a nervous wreck! I've read a few posts on here that have reassured me already. And I'm probably sure this question has been asked and answered a lot already so please excuse me if it has.

i recently turned 28 on the 22/08/20, I've had a lump in my right breast (almost bumpy if I can describe it like that) for over a month now, and at first I thought it was down to my HRT (Premarin) as I had a hysterectomy in January (this year) for endometriosis stage 4 and early stages cervical cancer where they removed the remaining of my cervix that was left from when they removed half when I was 25. Turns out as my GP Stopped my HRT and this lump and slight pain, itchy nipple and discharge was still there it wasn't the HRT. I finally got an appointment with her at the GP Surgery thanks to covid yesterday (27/08) and she referred me to the breast clinic almost immediately! She was extremely concerned because of my history, age and the clinical features of my breast. Which made me even more anxious than what I already was. I received a phone call today from the breast clinic and they've booked me in for the 3rd of September (less than a week away and I'm freaking out even more!)

can someone explain to me what happens? As the only downside to my gp appointment is that she didn't give me any leaflets or information, just referred me immediately and sent me on my way.

I'm terrified I may have cancer now in my breasts as I've already been through cervical cancer, and of course because of my age. My husband is scared stiff to touch me as I'm still recovering from my hysterectomy 7 months ago. And now this I can't talk to anyone because I don't have an official diagnosis, my main family have been informed (purely because of history) and they're freaking out which isn't helping and now I feel guilty for telling them.

many thanks x

  • Hello SBradleyMUA92,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum and wish you the very best of luck for your appointment on the 3rd September. It's good that they have managed to book you in so soon and hopefully it won't be long now until you get some answers or find out more as to what the next steps might be.

You will find in-depth information on what to expect at your breast clinic appointment on this page and I hope that it will answer some of the questions you might be asking yourself at the moment. Should you have any questions, don't hesitate also to ring our nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope this helps a little and that you will also hear from some of our lovely ladies here who have been to these appointments before and I am sure they will be happy to tell you more about what to expect on the day.

Best of luck for your appointment and best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
